A retired client wanted to jazz up the entrance to her home but leave the orchard, veggie beds and hardscape the way it was. Since she does all the maintenance herself, I wanted to make sure she wouldn't have too many weeds so we used the winter months to sheet mulch the area, killing the massive amount of existing weeds & enriching the hard soil. This worked beautifully. We added a flagstone pathway with Dymondia between the stones and a small area for her new bench to sit and enjoy the garden. She didn't want plants under her messy tree, so we decorated that area with pots. She has a huge deer & gopher problem which is why she hangs the white ribbons to scare away the deer from her fruit trees.

Заданная геометрия помещения, его обильная инсоляция и небольшой размер диктовали необходимость поиска иного подхода к проработке его стилистического решения, которое, тем не менее, не должно было противоречить общей эстетике остальной части квартиры. Для этого, сохранив узор напольного покрытия, мы сдвинули его цвет в более светлый тон, а стены оклеили обоями в крупный цветочный орнамент, которые принесли в комнату более живые, яркие оттенки. При этом удалось не выйти за рамки умеренной палитры, характерной для остальных помещений. Если вся квартира выполнена в стиле облегченной классики, то в комнате отдыха четко прослеживаются природные мотивы прованса.

This garden was in almost complete shade all day and the soil was permanantly damp. This allowed us to create a small, shallow wildlife pond and surround it with moisture loving plants.

Client had just completed a beautiful deck, challenge was how to use the space under the deck and how to connect the front yard with the back yard as it was a 9' elevation change. The solution was to build a natural bluestone patio under deck with large natural bluestone steps connecting the front yard to the new patio. The plantings softening all the hardscape, adding color and texture. The lighting created a warm attractive room that was comfortable to access and use.

This patio uses 'one of a kind' pavers. They were salvaged from a Lake Bluff street demolition and probably date back to the 1930's. Dan Wells
