In 2014, we were approached by a couple to achieve a dream space within their existing home. They wanted to expand their existing bar, wine, and cigar storage into a new one-of-a-kind room. Proud of their Italian heritage, they also wanted to bring an “old-world” feel into this project to be reminded of the unique character they experienced in Italian cellars. The dramatic tone of the space revolves around the signature piece of the project; a custom milled stone spiral stair that provides access from the first floor to the entry of the room. This stair tower features stone walls, custom iron handrails and spindles, and dry-laid milled stone treads and riser blocks. Once down the staircase, the entry to the cellar is through a French door assembly. The interior of the room is clad with stone veneer on the walls and a brick barrel vault ceiling. The natural stone and brick color bring in the cellar feel the client was looking for, while the rustic alder beams, flooring, and cabinetry help provide warmth. The entry door sequence is repeated along both walls in the room to provide rhythm in each ceiling barrel vault. These French doors also act as wine and cigar storage. To allow for ample cigar storage, a fully custom walk-in humidor was designed opposite the entry doors. The room is controlled by a fully concealed, state-of-the-art HVAC smoke eater system that allows for cigar enjoyment without any odor.

The Oriflamme Hammered Copper gas fire pit includes a metal lid, fire glass and a propane tank. Not only is this gas fire table beautiful, it is also functional with its unique height and burner style that allows this table to sit at standard coffee table height and burn up to 64,000 btus with the hidden propane tank or up to 90,000 BTUs with natural gas. This gas fire pit is truly unique and sets itself apart from the rest.

Conceived as a remodel and addition, the final design iteration for this home is uniquely multifaceted. Structural considerations required a more extensive tear down, however the clients wanted the entire remodel design kept intact, essentially recreating much of the existing home. The overall floor plan design centers on maximizing the views, while extensive glazing is carefully placed to frame and enhance them. The residence opens up to the outdoor living and views from multiple spaces and visually connects interior spaces in the inner court. The client, who also specializes in residential interiors, had a vision of ‘transitional’ style for the home, marrying clean and contemporary elements with touches of antique charm. Energy efficient materials along with reclaimed architectural wood details were seamlessly integrated, adding sustainable design elements to this transitional design. The architect and client collaboration strived to achieve modern, clean spaces playfully interjecting rustic elements throughout the home. A patterned Lannonstone wall creates a private backdrop for the heated spa, featuring a sheer water weir pouring from between the wall’s mortar joints. Generous planting beds provide seasonal texture and softening between paved areas. The paving is Bluestone.

Awarded "Best Smart Home of the Year" by EH, this home's living area features Meridian 7200 speakers and Sonance in wall and in ceiling speakers. In order for the homeowners to enjoy different music and entertainment in various rooms, 14 zones of video and 26 zones of audio were necessary. To control the lighting and offer privacy from the large windows, Spire installed Lutron motorized shades that seamless descends from hidden soffits. Spire outfitted this beautiful Michigan home with the best in high quality luxury technology. The homeowners enjoy the complete control of their home, from lighting and shading to entertainment and security, through the Savant Control System.

Beaucoup d’espace et un propriétaire n’ayant pas peur des grands projets : il n’en fallait pas plus pour voir naître cet aménagement original. Tout part d’une retenue de terre alternant roches, murets de pierres sèches et traverses en chêne disposées en jeu d’orgue. L’ensemble se pare d’une belle collection de vivaces et de sujets remarquables comme ce magnifique pin taillé en nuages. De là, s’écoule tranquillement à travers le jardin une rivière ponctuée de galets et de quelques roches. Elle croise sur son chemin un élégant potager constitué de carrés en hauteur et d’un chalet pour faciliter le travail du jardinier. Le tout est joliment ceinturé par une barrière en bois.
