“I purchased a 4-unit building in Hoboken that needed considerable work. My idea was to remodel the 4 units and keep them as rentals. But the company that was recommended to me and that I hired was Brunelleschi Construction. The project went over budget 100% and the work was not done up to par. When the building was finished Oct 2012 we had to put the units for sale to pay for the increased cost. Two weeks later Hurricane Sandy flooded our basement unit. This was a blessing in disguise. Brunelleschi had done a terrible job and the unit was awful. It had sofits protruding like I had never seen. My realtor recommended Houseplay, and I cannot say enough about Tammy and Niall. Their work was on schedule and on budget. When we had a change order it would be $400-1200, not the $4000 weekly average that I suffered with the initial construction. I would have loved to have used them for the initial project but the architects that I hired were who recommended contractors. “Sam of Creative Carpentry & Design was a pleasure to work with. I liked him instantly, I liked that he listened to my ideas but also had great suggestions and ways to take my (somewhat disjointed!) ideas into a solid plan that addressed our needs. Sam turned our underused sunporch into an office. The space has a long narrow layout with windows covering nearly all the wall surfaces. He designed a desk unit with two work stations, plenty of storage, reworked an existing built-in bookcase to match and be more functional as well as added a closet/wardrobe size storage cabinet. It's my favorite room in the house! He has a great eye for detail and design and works tirelessly to make sure it looks exactly right. He also worked around my crazy part time work schedule coming to work on the days I was home. I would hire them again in a heart beat.”

“I really can't say enough good things about my experience with Larry Sr. and team. We were facing a major overhaul after a pipe burst right after the new year. This compounded with some previous damage from a pair of roof leaks and a burst water heater. Long story short: water is not our friend. Add to that the fact that my wife was in her third trimester and it was a recipe for disaster. Larry Sr. arrived on the scene and immediately instilled a sense of calm. We had met with a handful of contractors that were either very cavalier about the scope of work or very alarmist. Larry Sr. took charge and immediately and thoroughly started compiling an estimate on the spot. He also noted that they have worked directly with our insurance company and that he would negotiate directly, something the other contractors never even brought up. Over the course of the next several weeks -- in which time were moved out of our home and praying that the baby did not come before we made it back -- the team worked at a furious pace and still managed to keep everything under control. We received a daily update with photos of progress, and were given suggestions but never felt pressured as it related to everything from paint color to floor stains. Our place looks brand new and, more importantly, is more structurally sound. I would whole-heartedly recommend the LA Design team to anyone that will listen, especially if you are looking to remove yourself from the headache of volleying back and forth with insurance adjusters.”
