This kitchen was relocated in this 1800s farmhouse. Existing fireplace was retrofitted and turned into double sided fireplace for the new great room addition. Legacy cut and removed a portion of the existing stone and firebrick to create a see-through fireplace • New cedar mantle on the great room side of the fireplace • New farmhouse sink to keep the feel of the original 1800s farmhouse • New custom bench seat in breakfast area and added a boxed-out window • Solid timber beams in the great room • Wood hood in kitchen • Commercial gas cooktop • Cabinets go all the way to the ceiling

A renovation of a waterfront colonial that was prompted by a severe flood resulted in a completely reinvented home. The kitchen overlooks the water, and is designed to maximize light and views. Sarah Robertson of Studio Dearborn helped her client renovate their kitchen to capture the views and vibe they were after. An appliance wall takes care of the business in this kitchen, and a pantry door was designed to seamlessly integrate into the cabinetry. The range was placed between two windows that overlook the covered porch, and the homeowners collection of artisan pieces are displayed on shelving across the windows. The custom zinc hood gives the kitchen a feeling of age and patina. Classic tailored furniture is married with the very latest appliances from Sub Zero and Wolf to provide a kitchen of distinction, designed to perfectly complement the proportions of the room. The design is practical and inviting but with every modern luxury included.

If you fear that a variety of materials and colors will look “too busy”, then consider this masterpiece of mixed elements that created a warm, rich, and layered one-of-a kind environment. Custom cabinetry combines frameless full overlay with flush inset construction; doors are both Shaker and slab. While most of the perimeter is lightly-stained rift cut white oak, the island and paneled backsplashes are Farrow & Ball’s “School House White”; the hutch is their pale blue-gray “Pigeon”. Two styles of Honey Bronze hardware comingle with the hutch’s simple polished nickel knobs. Open hutch shelves are rift cut oak; their gallery rails are brass. Faucets are polished nickel and the island pendant is aged iron. Even the countertops display variation: the sink wall, cooking nook and hutch are “Bianco Extra” marble, 2” thick with waterfall ends at the sink; 2” thick slabs with standard overhangs at the rangetop; and a thinner slab with traditional ogee edges on the hutch. Offering contrast on the island is 2” thick honed and leathered “Jet Mist” granite. The charming vent hood incorporates a scalloped detail and more oak. Slender furniture legs enhance the hutch, while 4” brass cuffs on the square island legs add sparkle. This project was designed in collaboration with Andy Toth and Leitenberger Design Group. The client’s choice of a planed cedar fence provides a warm accent to the scheme, which is mirrored in the design for the freestanding BBQ and then referenced again in the warm copper tones of the internal pendants, switches, faucets and stools.

Complete remodeling of existing kitchen, including removal of interior supporting walls to create an open floor plan with the living room, new hardwood floors throughout the house, white and wood shaker cabinets, white marble countertop with full backsplash and waterfall in the island and stainless steel appliances
