7 years ago, we complete a kitchen in Warwick, NY, that became one of the most popular projects of all time on Houzz. It was featured in Houzz stories and was viewed by millions of people - https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/transitional-kitchen-in-ny-pj-vj~700007 This year, the client bought a new house in Connecticut and we were thrilled when they called us, to work with them again. To our surprise, they wanted the same kitchen again – they loved their last kitchen so much and missed it, as soon as they sold the house. We used similar cabinets, but instead of beaded-inset, we used frameless-inset cabinets, for a more modern, cleaner look. Instead of white marble, we used Neolith Porcelain counters and backsplash.

The original space was a long, narrow room, with a tv and sofa on one end, and a dining table on the other. Both zones felt completely disjointed and at loggerheads with one another. Attached to the space, through glazed double doors, was a small kitchen area, illuminated in borrowed light from the conservatory and an uninspiring roof light in a connecting space. But our designers knew exactly what to do with this home that had so much untapped potential. Starting by moving the kitchen into the generously sized orangery space, with informal seating around a breakfast bar. Creating a bright, welcoming, and social environment to prepare family meals and relax together in close proximity. In the warmer months the French doors, positioned within this kitchen zone, open out to a comfortable outdoor living space where the family can enjoy a chilled glass of wine and a BBQ on a cool summers evening.

Oak hardwoods were laced into the existing floors, butcher block countertops contrast against the painted shaker cabinets, matte brass fixtures add sophistication, while the custom subway tile range hood and feature wall with floating shelves pop against the dark wall. The best feature? A dishwasher. After all these years as a couple, this is the first time the two have a dishwasher. Our design for the Ruby Residence augmented views to the outdoors at every opportunity, while completely transforming the style and curb appeal of the home in the process. This second story addition added a bedroom suite upstairs, and a new foyer and powder room below, while minimally impacting the rest of the existing home. We also completely remodeled the galley kitchen to open it up to the adjacent living spaces. The design carefully considered the balance of views and privacy, offering the best of both worlds with our design. The result is a bright and airy home with an effortlessly coastal chic vibe.

This recent remodel was a full gut down to the stubs and sub floors. The biggest challenge in the space was creating a single room from 2 separate areas. The original galley kitchen and a 1980’s add-on breakfast room. The breakfast room was cold and had old mechanicals emphasizing the need for a continuous space. The existing kitchen area was small, cramped and did not fit the lifestyle of the homeowners. The homeowners wanted a hidden pantry for large and seasonal items as well as for food storage. I planned for a portion of the garage to be transformed to a full size, walk-in, hidden pantry that catered to the needs of the family. Three of the most important design features include the hidden pantry, “other room” storage such as the mudroom seat and window bench, as well as the eat-in counter. Other notable design elements include glass cabinets, under-cabinet lighting, a message center and built-in under the counter appliances. Our client loved the current trend of two-tone cabinetry: the upper cabinets and lower cabinets being different colors. Knowing the client’s gray and white color scheme, our Interior Designer, Stephanie, selected Sherwin Williams“Skyline Steel” gray for the lowers and “Zurich White” for the uppers, creating a beautiful, visually interesting combination that flowed well with the bronze hardware and white appliances. The sink area is located in a cantilevered space. The bookcase facing the dining room conceals a narrow plumbing wall between the dining room and kitchen and gives the illusion that the dividing wall has been completely removed.
