The existing garden tub was outdated. We decided to go with a more sleeker, modern drop-in tub. Great for deep-soaking and giving that true spa feeling.

We planned a thoughtful redesign of this beautiful home while retaining many of the existing features. We wanted this house to feel the immediacy of its environment. So we carried the exterior front entry style into the interiors, too, as a way to bring the beautiful outdoors in. In addition, we added patios to all the bedrooms to make them feel much bigger. Luckily for us, our temperate California climate makes it possible for the patios to be used consistently throughout the year. The original kitchen design did not have exposed beams, but we decided to replicate the motif of the 30" living room beams in the kitchen as well, making it one of our favorite details of the house. To make the kitchen more functional, we added a second island allowing us to separate kitchen tasks. The sink island works as a food prep area, and the bar island is for mail, crafts, and quick snacks. We designed the primary bedroom as a relaxation sanctuary – something we highly recommend to all parents. It features some of our favorite things: a cognac leather reading chair next to a fireplace, Scottish plaid fabrics, a vegetable dye rug, art from our favorite cities, and goofy portraits of the kids. --- Project designed by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada. Complete master bathroom update. No change to original layout. Shrunk down the tub area to expand the shower. Used edge of drop-in tub as new shower bench! Pebble tile base inside shower for natural grip. Roman style tub filler and faucets. Jetted bath tub with new tile surround. New vanity with quartz countertops. Porcelain tile flooring.

The master bathroom remodel was done in continuation of the color scheme that was done throughout the house. Large format tile was used for the floor to eliminate as many grout lines and to showcase the large open space that is present in the bathroom. All 3 walls were tiles with large format tile as well with 3 decorative lines running in parallel with 1 tile spacing between them. The deck of the tub that also acts as the bench in the shower was covered with the same quartz stone material that was used for the vanity countertop, notice for its running continuously from the vanity to the waterfall to the tub deck and its step. Another great use for the countertop was the ledge of the shampoo niche.

We completely remodeled the shower and tub area, adding the same 6"x 6" subway tile throughout, and on the side of the tub. We added a shower niche. We painted the bathroom. We added an infinity glass door. We switched out all the shower and tub hardware for brass, and we re-glazed the tub as well.

The luxurious master bath remodel was thoughtfully designed with spa-like amenities including a deep soaking tub with LG Viatera Quartz surround and a tiered decorative wall niche, a frameless glass walk in shower with porcelain tile shower walls and sleek polished nickel fixtures. The custom “his and hers” white shaker vanities and quartz countertops artfully match the quartz bathtub surround and the sophisticated sconce lighting and soothing neutral tones of gray and white make this the perfect retreat.

This custom-built residence was our client’s childhood home, holding sentimental memories for her. Today as a detail-oriented Dentist and her husband, a retired Sea Captain, they wanted to put their own stamp on the house, making it suitable for their own unique lifestyle. The main objective of the design was to increase the Puget Sound views in every room possible. This entailed some areas receiving major overhaul, such as the master suite, lesser updates to the kitchen and office, and a surprise remodel to the expansive wine cellar. All these were done while preserving the home’s 1970s-era quirkiness.
