Located on a partially wooded lot in Elburn, Illinois, this home needed an eye-catching interior redo to match the unique period exterior. The residence was originally designed by Bow House, a company that reproduces the look of 300-year old bow roof Cape-Cod style homes. Since typical kitchens in old Cape Cod-style homes tend to run a bit small- or as some would like to say, cozy – this kitchen was in need of plenty of efficient storage to house a modern day family of three. Advance Design Studio, Ltd. was able to evaluate the kitchen’s adjacent spaces and determine that there were several walls that could be relocated to allow for more usable space in the kitchen. The refrigerator was moved to the newly excavated space and incorporated into a handsome dinette, an intimate banquette, and a new coffee bar area. This allowed for more countertop and prep space in the primary area of the kitchen. It now became possible to incorporate a ball and claw foot tub and a larger vanity in the elegant new full bath that was once just an adjacent guest powder room. Reclaimed vintage Chicago brick paver flooring was carefully installed in a herringbone pattern to give the space a truly unique touch and feel. And to top off this revamped redo, a handsome custom green-toned island with a distressed black walnut counter top graces the center of the room, the perfect final touch in this charming little kitchen.

This kitchen features updated appliances, fixtures, and completely new finishes. We eliminated the uppers at the peninsula to open the kitchen to the eat-in nook as well as to let light in from the bay window area

This island home is inspired by tradition and classical comfort. Each element strikes a bold chord, yet all come together as a seamless whole. A stained glass cabinet door, carefully designed mosaic stove guard, thick trim, and Italian soapstone countertops blend flourish with sentiment. Wallpaper, glass cabinet doors, and traditional overhead lamps whisper of whimsical nostalgia for a simpler time. Without seeming antiquated, this kitchen charms and wows. Challenges of a Small Kitchen. "How can we add a dishwasher and increase storage to our already small kitchen?" A good question for sure. We tucked the refrigerator into what had been a hall closet, encorporated a neat rolling cabinet/cutting board 'under' the new (handmade by owner) oak table, replaced a window into a new place, removed an space wasting unused brick chimney, strategically added many storage cabinets and removed bearing walls. The countertops are a combination of soapstone and Quartzite. We even squeezed in the "small but pretty" farm sink! "Lance Kramer (project manager) kept us informed every step, kept the job clean, did great work" ...and with a twinkle in his eye ... " I'd recommend you do not fire him". Richard L." This kitchen is in a newly built, dutch colonial style home. We used windows in lieu of cabinets on the sink wall to incorporate the beautiful views. Counters are a honed black granite. The arch ceiling was done in a stained breadboard to continue the ceiling of the porches on either side of the kitchen. The floor is a quarter sawn oak. The industrial pipe fixture will be fitted with elongated edison bulbs.

Project Description: The new owners of this Tudor revival home, built in 1905, had two primary goals in mind when they purchased it; 1) Upgrading all of the house systems, including rewiring the entire house and installing a new AC system; 2) as well as providing a gourmet kitchen that integrated with the existing great room. The existing kitchen, as in many old homes, was in a separate back room away from the formal living room, dining room, and great room. One of the biggest challenges was integrating the great room and kitchen in a way that spatially flowed well yet maintained the integrity of the homes character and finishes.

We added a 10 foot addition to their home, so they could have a large gourmet kitchen. We also did custom builtins in the living room and mudroom room. Custom inset cabinets from Laurier with a white perimeter and Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog cabinets. Custom shiplap ceiling. And a custom walk-in pantry
