Embracing an authentic Craftsman-styled kitchen was one of the primary objectives for these New Jersey clients. They envisioned bending traditional hand-craftsmanship and modern amenities into a chef inspired kitchen. The woodwork in adjacent rooms help to facilitate a vision for this space to create a free-flowing open concept for family and friends to enjoy. This kitchen takes inspiration from nature and its color palette is dominated by neutral and earth tones. Traditionally characterized with strong deep colors, the simplistic cherry cabinetry allows for straight, clean lines throughout the space. A green subway tile backsplash and granite countertops help to tie in additional earth tones and allow for the natural wood to be prominently displayed. The rugged character of the perimeter is seamlessly tied into the center island. Featuring chef inspired appliances, the island incorporates a cherry butchers block to provide additional prep space and seating for family and friends. The free-standing stainless-steel hood helps to transform this Craftsman-style kitchen into a 21st century treasure.

This kitchen replaced a deteriorating kitchen with plastic wall tile and linoleum floor. Custom cabinetry allowed us to get the most out of this relatively small kitchen. Countertops are made out of recycled paper, called Paperstone. Handmade tile gives the kitchen a homey, artsy feel.

Ski in and out Craftsman Kitchen. The Multiple Ranch and Mountain Homes are shown in this project catalog: from Camarillo horse ranches to Lake Tahoe ski lodges. Featuring rock walls and fireplaces with decorative wrought iron doors, stained wood trusses and hand scraped beams. Rustic designs give a warm lodge feel to these large ski resort homes and cattle ranches. Pine plank or slate and stone flooring with custom old world wrought iron lighting, leather furniture and handmade, scraped wood dining tables give a warmth to the hard use of these homes, some of which are on working farms and orchards. Antique and new custom upholstery, covered in velvet with deep rich tones and hand knotted rugs in the bedrooms give a softness and warmth so comfortable and livable. In the kitchen, range hoods provide beautiful points of interest, from hammered copper, steel, and wood. Unique stone mosaic, custom painted tile and stone backsplash in the kitchen and baths. designed by Maraya Interior Design. The wood used for this kitchen was harvested in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The massive white oak fell during a storm in the spring of 2011. After milling the wood, it was allowed to age for 2 years. The milled lumber was transported to a kiln and dried. In the end we harvested over 1000 board feet of quarter sawn white oak. Gary Arthurs

The final result had a charming cottage quality to it. We added a washer and dryer to the small kitchen and made it all work by installing an 18" wide dishwasher; the saved 6" in width went into the three drawer base in the left of the photo. The small condo had no need for a full sized dishwasher. The light colored quartz counter top was just the right finish to work with the linoleum and the green tile. Photos by Brian J. McGarry
