Sadly I did not use my regular Class A contractor on this job; he did install the wall cabinets upside down. There were three wall cabinets, one in the middle and two of the same size on either side; his mistake was in installing the finished side up and the unfinished side down. The contractor was supplied with detailed drawings of the installation. Despite the client's recollection of the project (she wasn't home, we worked closely with her husband) I met my contractor on site the morning he was to start tear out, rough in and installation. This was (I felt) a pretty straightforward project; we went over the placement of the cabinets and brought them into the home from the garage. I stopped in later in the same day and observed that he was moving along well in the rough in stage. I was made aware of the mistake when we looked at the cabinets from below after installation. Despite, again, the client's recollection I offered to replace the wall cabinets; they did not wish me to. As the stiles were trimmed to her walls which were not level we could not merely turn them around. This was scheduled as a two day project so I really don't know how I didn't show up time after time. I did purchase additional materials and follow the client's directions to hide the undercabinet fixtures as well as possible. These additions did stretch the job out over several weeks as the trim pieces from the manufacturer were in a matching custom finish. It was unfortunate that a simple project of a study area (actual cost $5,950.00) ended up going so badly. The cabinets ordered fit perfectly to the space and should have gone in with no issues; unfortunately the very experienced contractor I used did not examine the cabinets properly before he hung them.
