When designing this space I wanted to create a Queenslander style kitchen with modern functionality. This design is a simple L shape design, it still has everything you need to cook and bake if you feel like it. The dishwasher is 450mm wide and allowed the pantry to be squeezed into space. The microwave is hidden above the fridge behind the lift-up door. This is a very clever design allowing a fully functional kitchen in a small spacious space.

For a single woman working in downtown San Francisco, we were tasked with remodeling her 500 sq.ft. Victorian garden condo. We brought in more light by enlarging most of the openings to the rear and adding a sliding glass door in the kitchen. The kitchen features custom zebrawood cabinets, CaesarStone counters, stainless steel appliances and a large, deep square sink. The bathroom features a wall-hung Duravit vanity and toilet, recessed lighting, custom, built-in medicine cabinets and geometric glass tile. Wood tones in the kitchen and bath add a note of warmth to the clean modern lines. We designed a soft blue custom desk/tv unit and white bookshelves in the living room to make the most out of the space available. A modern JØTUL fireplace stove heats the space stylishly. We replaced all of the Victorian trim throughout with clean, modern trim and organized the ducts and pipes into soffits to create as orderly look as possible with the existing conditions.

This 400 s.f. studio apartment in NYC’s Greenwich Village serves as a pied-a-terre for clients whose primary residence is on the West Coast. Although the clients do not reside here full-time, this tiny space accommodates all the creature comforts of home. Bleached hardwood floors, crisp white walls, and high ceilings are the backdrop to a custom blackened steel and glass partition, layered with raw silk sheer draperies, to create a private sleeping area, replete with custom built-in closets. Simple headboard and crisp linens are balanced with a lightly-metallic glazed duvet and a vintage textile pillow. The living space boasts a custom Belgian linen sectional sofa that pulls out into a full-size bed for the couple’s young children who sometimes accompany them. Efficient and inexpensive dining furniture sits comfortably in the main living space and lends clean, Scandinavian functionality for sharing meals. The sculptural handrafted metal ceiling mobile offsets the architecture’s clean lines, defining the space while accentuating the tall ceilings. The kitchenette combines custom cool grey lacquered cabinets with brass fittings, white beveled subway tile, and a warm brushed brass backsplash; an antique Boucherouite runner and textural woven stools that pull up to the kitchen’s coffee counter puntuate the clean palette with warmth and the human scale. The under-counter freezer and refrigerator, along with the 18” dishwasher, are all panelled to match the cabinets, and open shelving to the ceiling maximizes the feeling of the space’s volume. The entry closet doubles as home for a combination washer/dryer unit. The custom bathroom vanity, with open brass legs sitting against floor-to-ceiling marble subway tile, boasts a honed gray marble countertop, with an undermount sink offset to maximize precious counter space and highlight a pendant light. A tall narrow cabinet combines closed and open storage, and a recessed mirrored medicine cabinet conceals additional necessaries. The stand-up shower is kept minimal, with simple white beveled subway tile and frameless glass doors, and is large enough to host a teak and stainless bench for comfort; black sink and bath fittings ground the otherwise light palette. What had been a generic studio apartment became a rich landscape for living.

With this homeowner being a geologist, they were looking for a very earthy, stone-based feel. The stone for the countertop was selected first, and then a bright color was found to match the rusted stone esthetic. The window was also opened to give life to the owner’s beautiful view and grey upper-cabinets were used to tie the appliances into the rest of the design. After kitchen charcoal cabinets are modern and full of function. The dark tone of the kitchen is subdued by the light counter top and hard wood floors.

The Dacor appliances blend and disappear fully into the cabinetry where needed, while the modernist range, with its elegant brass burners, complements the minimalist design. The built-in banquette was over-sized to bring color into the room and to frame the Tulip breakfast table. The prints in the breakfast area, are from the Wynwood District of Miami, were photographed by Luly. They are a refreshing and colorful reminder of her home town. Black accents, rectilinear hardware, and light countertops provide just enough of a delicate balance to the show-stopping combination of Dacor appliances. The end result is a smart, modern kitchen with warm and colorful touches that make it an extremely functional crowning jewel of the home.

This sleek and modern kitchen gives off industrial vibes with its Matt Graphite handle less doors and its insanely trendy copper rails. The contrasting Grey Drift Quartz worktops balance out these bold and dramatic units with the opposing walls. The weathered wooden wallpaper ties this all together perfectly, and the industrial style feature light finishes off this masterpiece.
