We selected BDB for a new kitchen, powder room, laundry room, mudroom, hall bath, primary bath, primary walk-in closet, and screened in porch. Everyone we worked with was professional and knowledgeable. We were very satisfied with their architecture plans and design suggestions. Their cabinetry is superb and overall workmanship was top notch. Our pleasant and friendly on site manager was on site every morning (on time) and managed all the subs-contractors, so we could go about our busy lives. Several years after completion, a ceiling leak developed. BDB was out that very day to stop the leak and dry out the attic. They repaired the damage to our bathroom ceiling (to include installing new insulation) and replaced the ruined light fixture with the exact model as it was still available. As they determined the leak was from a vent not properly installed during our remodel, all repair was done with no charge to us. BDB stood by their work. Highly recommend and would engage them again for a home project.

We would not have attempted to complete our project with any other firm than Bowers Design Build. Bowers checked off every box on our list - great customer service, detailed project timelines, detailed selection lists, up-front pricing, skilled staff, attention to detail, and on and on.
The Bowers team worked with us to ensure the addition to our nearly 100 year-old home met our needs while maintaining the look and feel of the existing structure and the neighborhood. We have been living in our house for almost 14 years and there is nothing we wish we had done differently or that we would change.
Bowers continues to support us by completing general home maintenance tasks or by referring us to trusted subcontractors - which takes all the guess work and worry away.
We highly recommend Bowers Design Build!

We hired Bowers Design Build to renovate our basement to create a modern laundry area, home gym/TV room and various sized closets for storage, and to complete other miscellaneous work. The project was completed on time and within budget. Through the design, contract and building phases, we found the Bowers team to be very professional, knowledgeable and helpful. We were especially pleased with the site manager whose expertise helped create a high quality, versatile, new living space for our family.

We hired Bowers Design Build to expand our living room. From the first meeting through the completion of the job, they were extremely professional and knowledgeable. Although I had a general idea what I wanted, they made great suggestions to improve the design. The quality of work performed was outstanding! With a very tight schedule, I was very impressed that they were able to meet the schedule. They were also right on target with the budget. We love the new addition!

Bowers Design Build remodeled my kitchen, master bathroom, added a new entrance to our house, screened in porch, and a laundry room upstairs. They are very professional. They are a design build firm, so we worked with them through the design and construction process. Bowers ensured that the design and construction turned out great! The onsite team was managed by Bowers and they made sure everyone was professional and things were completed on time. Even post-construction there were some issues, but Bowers would come by and help solve these issues. I would definitely recommend the company to anyone looking for any design-build firm!

Bowers is fantastic from start to finish. We have now used them twice, once for a complete kitchen remodel, and the second time, just last year, for an addition of a family room, new master bedroom, new master bath, and a new deck. The quality of their work, their eyes for detail, and their ideas for how to give you what you are looking for in a remodel are all superb.
As just one example, our house is a split foyer and we had always been perturbed by the fact that traffic got all jammed up by the front door because once you came in the house, you immediately had to go upstairs or down. Either that or stand outside in the cold and rain. We didn't know what to do about it, but we wanted a fix. Bruce Bowers took one look at it and said "well, you could move the stairs." Really? That's what they did and it looks great and solved our problems. Then, Larry built us a bookcase under the stairs that looks like it is built into the wall but opens to reveal a storage area under the new stairs. Very clever.
We love our new house. The new family room, bedroom and master bath look wonderful and are exactly what we wanted. I can't recommend Bowers highly enough.

I had a full kitchen and laundry room remodel done by Bowers Design Build. Everything was finished on time. They were very professional. Bowers Design Build does everything in-house and do the work themselves, they don't subcontract out their work. They are on the expensive side, so be prepared for that! But, you save a lot of hassle because they take care of everything. I would definitely recommend the company to anyone who is doing a major house remodeling project.

Bowers Design Build completed the job on time and within estimated budget. We have young children in the home and were always comfortable with the Bowers staff and subcontractors. As with any renovation and/or addition, there were unforeseen issues during construction. Bowers worked with us to resolve any issues to our mutual satisfaction.

From the start of the process, Bowers was exceptional. As an Architect/Project Manager it was refreshing to work with a firm from conception to completion without a hitch. Bowers came to my property and looked over existing conditions, discussed a solution how to realize what we desired (conversion of an ensuite seating area into 5 fixture luxury bathroom with underfloor heating including two walkin his and hers closets). The entire process was seamless and fluid. The actually came in on time and everything was finished to the highest standards. I have no hesitation in recommending Bowers for any residential construction project.

We hired Bowers to create a new bathroom and remodel two other bathrooms. It was quite an extensive project that required gutting the center part of our house. The team was always available for questions. Ed supervised the subcontractors and was a meticulous carpenter. The team was great to work with.

Bowers Design Build is more than a reputable and professional general contractor- they are a trust advisor and community leaders. I learned of their work through several neighbors who hired Bowers for various home improvement projects mostly involving involving significant renovation. We needed our basement to be finished and remodeled and Bowers exceeded expectation in all aspects. Every aspect of working with Bowers was positive, and key things in particular stand out: Their carpentry, sense for design practicality and their business infrastructure/ project management. Bower designed and build gorgeous custom built in bookshelves. The bookshelves welcomed all who entered the basement and made a design statement immediately. The shelving accomodated coffee table books as well as smaller ones, pictures and memorabilia-- all because the carpenter knew the questions to ask and helped us think through the myriad of design and useage issues before any design was finalized. Bowers helped with bathroom and bedroom design. They ensured the bedroom met local standards so that when we sold our home, the room was indeed a full 5th bedroom, complete with three custom closets and a pocket door access to the media center. The media center- also a custom cabinet marvel allows us to showcase a 55inch HDTV with custom shelving to place surround sound speakers, VCR, DVD player etc. They created space behind the large screen TV so that cables, surge protection equipment and other boxes could be stored. They created additional storage for games, and books as well Visually the media center was gorgeous and balanced as well. Bowers was on time and within budget. They have a business office and process infrastructure that worked with us every step of the way ensuring that the invoicing and billing was accurate. Any discrepancies or minor disagreements were dealt with professionally and promptly. We loved our basement. It not only was beautiful, it was functional as well and played a huge role in increasing the sales value of our home when we sold it in 2013. I would recommend Bowers design Build to any and everyone. I have since moved away from the area and wish I could have taken Bowers with me.

We had a great experience working with Bowers design to have our house remodeled. Our project was relatively vast in scope and the project came through basically on budget, weeks ahead of schedule, and with no lingering issues having cropped up almost a year later. Bowers was not the cheapest quote that we received, but they provided the most comprehensive services for the project and delivered what they promised on a major project (ahead of schedule) leaving us feeling that we got what we paid for.
We decided to go with Bowers because we were doing a major remodel that would require us to make a lot of decisions--including finding a rental house while it was underway--but we have young children, both work, and wanted someone to help guide us through the process.
Bowers provided the most comprehensive option on this front, with helpful discussions during the design phase, a series of thorough inspections of the house pre-construction to avoid problems down the line, a useful outline of when decisions needed to be made for a variety of things, assistance in figuring out how to make those decisions within the confines we wanted (and without pressure to go in the direction they wanted, but actual help to go in the direction we wanted), and a dedicated site manager to ensure the project stayed on time and on budget (thanks Larry!).
All in all, our major house remodel came out how we wanted and 7 weeks ahead of schedule (over winter). We would (and have) recommend Bowers without reservation.

We had a fantastic experience with the Bowers team. We hired them to do a pool house kitchen renovation as a "test". They passed with flying colors so we went ahead with plans to renovate our kitchen, master bath and lower level. The team was very considerate of our time and space. Most importantly they got along great with our dogs!

I used Bowers Design and Build to create a very specialized print and painting studio. The team at Bowers worked closely with me to provide the perfect space, making sure that all of my specifications were met. Because of their knowledge concerning lighting, efficient use of space, and available materials, they were able to guide me when I was unsure of how accomplish my goals for the building. This included assuring adequate water and electrical connections for an industrial wash-out sink and commercial grade exposure table.
I've been working full-time in my studio for over a year now, and I'm still amazed at the beauty and functionality of the space. I highly recommend Bowers for their dedication to detail and determination to provide truly excellent customer service.

We completed an occupied kitchen/mudroom addition, new porch/patio (plus related HVAC overhaul and more minor improvements) with Bowers in 2008. The work was high quality and for residential construction, relatively on time (maybe 6 weeks past the original completion date). I would hire the on-site manager and craftsmen again in a moment; however, the whole team was let go due to the recession at that time and I do not believe any of them are there anymore. Ultimately, the success of the project was based on the quality of the people they hired so that was 5 stars in my mind.
I was not as impressed with the engagement of the firm's owners. Our project was between $650-750k and we met them twice: once when we happened to be on site when Bruce showed up and once at the end when there were issues with the custom cabinetry. They were not part of our visioning/programming or the general project design, they never called to see how it was going, and just seemed absent in general. It was a hot time in building, so maybe they were just busy, but I thought our project seemed significant enough to get some more personal attention.

These items were such things as re-roofing your home, replacing some exterior existing trim on your dormers, adding stone to the exterior of your home, additional electrical work, adding walls in the basement, etc. With each of these requests for additional work, we were more than happy to help you. Completing this additional work did extend the time we were at your home.

Bowers built an open concept kitchen for us that involved removing walls and building a cathedral ceiling. The process from conception to conclusion went quite smoothly. The project manager was excellent and paid close attention to details. He involved us when appropriate, and did not automatically seek the easy solution. We liked the designer who helped us narrow down the infinite design choices. We are very happy with our new, well constructed, functional, and attractive space.

Our project was a complete renovation of the basement and the front of our house. I loved working with Bowers because of their stellar customer service and high quality workmanship. They worked closely with us through the whole process. They were innovative in their design and were so professional in all of our dealings with them. They also came as a complete package with their own designers and construction personnel. They gave us a specific timeline and budget and made both of them. They also came up with great ideas for reusing some of our existing materials. Our project manager was there from day 1 and didn't leave until it was completed. It was a great experience!

I hired Bowers Design Build to do a complete kitchen remodel for me. As one can appreciate, the decision of a complete kitchen remodel can be a daunting undertaking and Bowers Design Build made the entire process smooth and stress free. I have been showing off my fabulous new kitchen to everyone. I entertained my family for Thanksgiving dinner one week after completion and I am ecstatic with the final product. Working with the Bowers team has been a real pleasure: they are concise, prompt, professional, flexible and courteous, and they completed my kitchen ahead of schedule.
The cabinets, granite, tile, appliances, pendants, lighting, and accessories are of the highest quality and fully exceeded my expectations. The quality of the work and attention to detail was outstanding. My experience with Bowers was so good that I have already made several recommendations and referrals. In fact, I am in the process of coordinating my next project with them. They have earned a customer for life!
If I could give more than 5 stars I would! I highly recommend Bowers Design Build to anyone, anytime, without reservation.

We have used Bowers for 3 projects in the past 6 years: an addition/kitchen remodel; major storm damage repair; and a master bath/laundry room renovation. The work has always very high quality and we have always been extremely satisfied. Project planning is very thorough, so every project was completed on time and exactly to budget. Our project managers have always been a pleasure deal with and very detail oriented. Sub-contractors had the same high quality work and service standards. We would not hesitate to use Bowers again and we have recommended them to neighbors and friends.

Bowers Design Build has done two remodeling projects at my home, a kitchen remodel in 2009, and a master bedroom suite remodel in 2011. Both projects were done on schedule and on budget. The best thing about BDB is that you receive complete and comprehensive service: from the design phase through all product selections, the Bowers team of architects, planners and designers are there to help and guide the client. Also, my experience has been that all members of the team are talented, detail oriented, flexible, and easy to work with. This is a company of professionals who go above and beyond to satisfy the customer. The experience and expertise of the Bowers Team enables them to provide suggestions and assistance during the process of planning and building the project which produce a finished project even better than first imagined. In the years since my projects were completed, I have often called Bowers for assistance on home maintenance issues and they have always been there to help and either send a member of their staff to assist us, or suggest a local trusted professional to take care of whatever is needed. This is a wonderful company staffed by wonderful people!

Renovation of two baths and basement (adding a 3rd bath). The team was very dependable, informative, and thoughtful. My design contact was patient while providing excellent guidance. The work was completed within a reasonable timeframe. Punch list (follow-up) items were always addressed promptly. My one issue related to the variance between the initial consultation cost projection vs. the final cost. Overall, I was very satisfied with the Bowers team and would consult with them in the future.

Bowers always has the perfect solution to our design and home construction projects. They ask and skillfully answer the questions that we wouldn't even think of. We love the full-service aspect of Bowers: from Bill's hands-on, all-around construction knowledge to Gigi's interior design and color genius, your entire project is covered and integrated.
On our most recent project with them, Bowers adaptably worked with our unpredictable schedule, rearranging their assignments as needed to get everything done on time.

We had our kitchen, family room and garage renovated. Work included all new windows, raising the floor on the step down family room, a complete gut of the kitchen, partial demolition of the wall between the kitchen and family room, conversion of one of the garage bays (3 car garage) to a mudroom/utility room with a new sink and a new powder room. This was phase 1 of our long term plan for our home. Phase 2 is to build a detached new 2 car + garage with a covered walkway and new deck in the rear off of the kitchen. Bowers Design designed phase 1 with phase 2 in mind so that no work will have to be duplicated or redone. A good example is that they provided electrical power for the phase 2 garage and terminated the wiring in a convenient location for easy future access.
The entire project was completed AHEAD of schedule by about 2 weeks. Bowers Design were able to provide us a laundry room in our basement and moved our washer dryer down there while the project was executed.
Their staff and sub contractors are very professional and provide a very high quality of work. Their superintendent and project manager were both very courteous and conscientious. They DO NOT and WILL NOT cut corners. I say this since I am in the commercial construction profession as a project manager and cost estimator (19 years experience). I have seen plenty of construction projects both good and bad.
We will be using them for any work on our house in the future.

Bowers Design Build is an excellent firm. They are friendly, responsive, with extremely professional workmen and staff. They stay on schedule and on budget. They are very considerate of your needs, property, and pets! I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Bowers provided both design and construction services for an extensive renovation of our house in 2005. We continue to be extremely pleased with the result. The design concepts they developed fitted our needs extremely well, and the construction was both timely and very well executed. In addition, they have continued to provide excellent advice and support for any ongoing repair or maintenance issues. We would be happy to give them our highest recommendation.

Our dream of buying and renovating an old home would never have come to fruition without Bowers Design Build. From helping us inspect the house before purchase to helping us with small projects even now, seven years later, Bowers has been with us making our dream come true.
We appreciated their detailed design process that kept us and them on schedule. By working diligently and making decisions in a timely manner, Bowers was able to complete our project one month early! Yes, early!
We could not be more proud of our house. Bowers did a terrific job maintaining the old character (1922) while marrying the new addition beautifully. We eagerly show-off the craftsmanship and attention to detail to all of our guests.
Bowers gave us a wonderful place to call home - and there is not any other place we'd rather be and no other builder we'd rather use.

We have used Bowers for 2 projects and couldn't have been more pleased. With the first, a kitchen remodel, mudroom addition, and garage extension, we were most pleased with a design idea to increase space by relocating the entrance to basement stairs. This small idea dramatically changed what our space would allow. With a bedroom, 2 bathroom and upstairs study area renovation, we were very happy with the workers' ability to work around our limited living area and our schedules. Both projects were completed on time and on budget. Workers arrived and left every single day at the same time and cleaned up every day. We really felt Bowers was giving us all of their attention

We hired Bowers Design and Build to help us reconfigure and add priority space to our 1963 multi-level split-level home in McLean, VA. We wanted to create a space that fit the way we lived as a family of four, yet soon to be three then two as our boys headed to college. Our goal was to keep our loved location while transforming our home of 13 years into a fresh, nurturing and environmentally friendly space that was big enough, but not too big, allowing us the joy of investing in the features we valued most. Working on the design, we found the team attentive, flexible and innovative in helping us define our vision. We were greatly pleased with the commitment to quality and innovation at all levels and with each decision made. We lived in our house throughout the renovation, and the Bowers’ team was responsive and creative in helping us carry-on our every-day lives throughout the transformation. With all the challenges of a family of four living in the middle of the project, the team finished on time and offered complete customer satisfaction at every step of the process. We value our relationship with each member of the team, from the designers and architects to the carpenters and tradesmen who gave the vision form.

Bowers Design Build has done two major projects for us. The service and attention and quality of the work could not have been better. We worked very hard with them on the design of the space and never felt rushed. We received great care from every level of person. They continue to assist us on small projects as needed and are always a phone call away.

We've used Bowers Design Build for three home renovations, which essentially means they have custom-built our home! From the initial meeting, Bruce Bowers is full of great ideas and doesn't shy away from sharing them, even if no money has exchanged hands! The Bowers team treats you and your home as if they live there, too. Not to say that each project is without bumps, but the team is very responsive to getting things back on track, and the end result is excellent value for the money.

I have worked for several years with the owners and designers at Bowers Design Build. In the course of my work as an architectural photographer, I have met hundreds of homeowners who have worked with dozens of builders. As I work in their homes (photographing them for Bruce and Wilma) I constantly hear how easy they are to work with, how responsive they are to their clients' needs, and how completely satisfied they are with the whole experience of having the Bowers' firm do their project.
