Our San Francisco studio designed this bright, airy, Victorian kitchen with stunning countertops, elegant built-ins, and plenty of open shelving. The dark-toned wood flooring beautifully complements the white themes in the minimalist kitchen, creating a classic appeal. On this project, our aim was to maximize storage and organization in the pantry for this family of five. This family previously had the common complaint that their pantry was always message and that they could never find what they wanted. To address this, we created provided a large amount of shelving, including key sections that slide out to provide better access to the items in the back. In addition, since their refrigerator didn't fit in the space that was created for it, we converted that into a pantry nook for even more storage. White melamine was used to mange cost and create a clean look, and the barn door on the main pantry provides a nice accent.

L'architecte a joué avec les tendances actuelles pour donner du cachet à cet appartement. Dans la cuisine nous avons installé un claustra, ce système permet de laisser passer la lumière tout en cloisonnant une pièce. Dans la SDB nous avons joué avec des carrelages pâles qui viennent mettre en valeur une robinetterie noire carbon. L'immeuble était à chauffage collectif, cela veut dire qu'il est impossible de changer les radiateurs. Ces derniers ont été camouflés avec un coffrage sur-meure fait sur place par notre menuisier.

For this project we were hired to design the residential interiors and common spaces of this new development in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This project consists of two small sister buildings located on the same lot; both buildings together have 25,000 s.f of residential space which is divided into 13 large condos. The apartment interiors were given a loft-like feel with an industrial edge by keeping exposed concrete ceilings, wide plank oak flooring, and large open living/kitchen spaces. All hardware, plumbing fixtures and cabinetry are black adding a dramatic accent to the otherwise mostly white spaces; the spaces still feel light and airy due to their ceiling heights and large expansive windows. All of the apartments have some outdoor space, large terraces on the second floor units, balconies on the middle floors and roof decks at the penthouse level. In the lobby we accentuated the overall industrial theme of the building by keeping raw concrete floors; tiling the walls in a concrete-like large vertical tile, cladding the mailroom in Shou Sugi Ban, Japanese charred wood, and using a large blackened steel chandelier to accent the space.

Rancho Miniero: Nestled into a sloping hillside, this home’s design gradually reveals itself as you drive up to the auto court, walk through an opening in a garden wall and enter through the front door. The expansive great room has a 15-foot ceiling and concrete floors, stained the color of worn leather. A series of dramatic glass archways open onto the pool terrace and provide a stunning view of the valley below. Upstairs, the bedrooms have floors of reclaimed hickory and pecan. The homes’ copper roof reflects sunlight, keeping the interior cool during the warm summer months. A separate pool house also functions as an office. Photography Doug Dun

Many families do not formally dine and do not need a formal dining room. We find that formal dining rooms in older homes sit empty and waste valuable communal space. In modern homes, cooking and eating are a more fluid, communal process. In this home, we aligned the dining table with the kitchen island as an extension of the kitchen.
