In this kitchen, the blue base cabinets pack a punch of color, while the white uppers and backsplash create a light and airy space that looks bigger than the actual square footage. photo by Pedro Marti The goal of this renovation was to create a stair with a minimal footprint in order to maximize the usable space in this small apartment. The existing living room was divided in two and contained a steep ladder to access the second floor sleeping loft. The client wanted to create a single living space with a true staircase and to open up and preferably expand the old galley kitchen without taking away too much space from the living area. Our solution was to create a new stair that integrated with the kitchen cabinetry and dining area In order to not use up valuable floor area. The fourth tread of the stair continues to create a counter above additional kitchen storage and then cantilevers and wraps around the kitchen’s stone counters to create a dining area. The stair was custom fabricated in two parts. First a steel structure was created, this was then clad by a wood worker who constructed the kitchen cabinetry and made sure the stair integrated seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen. The treads have a floating appearance when looking from the living room, that along with the open rail helps to visually connect the kitchen to the rest of the space. The angle of the dining area table is informed by the existing angled wall at the entry hall, the line of the table is picked up on the other side of the kitchen by new floor to ceiling cabinetry that folds around the rear wall of the kitchen into the hallway creating additional storage within the hall.

This kitchen might be small, but now it is mighty. Taking a dark closed in space and being able to open it up to create a broad, open concept kitchen that is now bright and modern, is one of the strongest transformations we have done so far this year. We started with removing walls, soffits and that dated popcorn ceiling. Taking the water heater outdoors gave us a bit more space as well. Once we had the room empty, we got to put it back together in a much more functional way. Adjusting the locations of the fridge and stove created a better working area for these homeowners. This kitchen now boasts a 30 inch range with matching stainless steel hood. Subway tile in a herringbone patter makes up the backsplash from stove to ceiling, and spreads across the whole kitchen space. Navy blue cabinets create a deep base for the bright white upper cabinets and countertops. The countertops are a Quartz material that is created to mimic a Carrara marble. A stunning addition to the space. Stainless steel fixtures throughout keep the look clean and minimalistic, such as the double spray Moen faucet. The apron front single bowl kink by Kohler in their White Haven style brings a touch of old world charm into the room. Adding to the functionality, a new sliding glass patio door took the place of the old outdated slider. Milgard provided the new energy efficient door, and kitchen window. Topping off the space is oversized crown moldings set atop risers on each of the upper cabinets. And last but certainly not least, is the 6x24, commercially rated porcelain tile that perfectly mimics a true old fashioned wood floor, with all the modern functionality. A perfect way to warm up the bright cool space.

The original kitchen in this condominium was renovated arising from the need to replace Kitec plumbing. The work triangle remained generally the same, but numerous changes were made to improve the kitchen’s functionality, aesthetics, and lighting. Automation was also introduced. The goal was to design and build a modern contemporary functional kitchen with inspiring colours accented with textured wood features. The functionality was improved with the addition of an under counter microwave, which freed up countertop space. Additional and improved storage was also created by incorporating under cabinet drawers throughout the kitchen, a bar area with open glass shelving above, and open shelving to the right of the seating area. Upper cabinet storage was as well increased with storage above the fridge. Numerous lighting improvements were made including the addition of potlights. This was done by dropping the ceiling in the kitchen, which also created a visual division with the dining area. Automation was introduced as well into the space with HUE under cabinet lighting, and a touch faucet. The under cabinet lights are controlled by the Phillips Hue App that programs routines, scenes, and other settings. The kitchen features painted Shaker cabinets accented by textured wood shelving. The countertop surfaces are quartz with waterfalls on both sides of the island, which is a focal point. Shapes are also strongly identified in the design with the use of triangular tiles in the backsplash along with rectangular upper cabinets, and appliance doors and drawers. The kitchen is made most unique though with the uplifting use of colour in the cabinets that make this a bright and cheerful space. Aristea Photography

Through meticulous design and planning, we executed a refreshing modern transformation, breathing new life into the space. Every room in this Docklands apartment displays the wow factor! Scandi theme is the design statement behind the timber barn door into the bathroom and euro laundry. This stunning timber grooved paneling, wall hung vanity has introduced texture and a focal point into this adoring renovation. Striking the balance with perfect mix of warmth, clean lines to create a seamless open feel. The Ensuite is nothing but amazing, exquisite finishes alongside the center piece of the freestanding bathtub. The speckled Terrazzo flooring is visually beautiful against the white custom- made joinery with brushed gold fittings throughout, creating a real timeless feel with complete luxury.

Our clients were seeking a classic and stylish Shaker kitchen with a contemporary edge, to complement the architecture of their five-year-old house, which features a modern beamed ceiling and herringbone flooring. They also wanted a kitchen island to include banquette seating surrounding one end of a large industrial-style dining table with an Ash wooden table top that our clients already owned. We designed the main run of in frame cabinetry with a classic cornice to completely fit within the recessed space along the back wall behind the island, which is hand-painted in Stewkey Blue by Farrow & Ball. This includes a central inglenook and an overmantel that conceals a Siemens canopy extractor hood above a white Everhot range cooker. Overhead cabinets and undercounter storage cupboards were included within the design, together with oak dovetailed deep drawer storage boxes. A Samsung American-style fridge freezer was also integrated within the run. A 30mm thick quartz worktop in Tuscany colourway extends on either side of the range cooker and this is repeated on the kitchen island as well, with an overhang on both sides of the u-shaped design to accommodate bar stools beneath. In the centre of the island, we created u-shaped banquette seating upholstered in grey velvet to surround one end of the large rectangular dining table. To store their collection of fine wines, we specified two undercounter wine conditioners by Miele to fit within each end of the island to store reds, whites and Champagnes. Along the length of the island, facing the Everhot is a large ceramic double-bowl Belfast sink by Shaws of Darwen and a Quooker Cube tap, providing hot, cold, boiling and sparkling water. On the task side of the island, two 60cm dishwashers by Miele are integrated at either end of the cabinetry together with storage for pull-out bins and utility items. On a further run to the left of the island, we designed and made a large Shaker two-door pantry larder, hand-painted in All White by Farrow & Ball and featuring deep dovetail drawer boxes beneath. Extending on either side of the pantry is natural oak contemporary open shelving to mix with the traditional design of the kitchen. A further freestanding cabinet with a natural solid oak top was handmade to sit beneath the client’s wall-mounted television. Cup handles and knobs are all brushed brass by Crofts and Assinder, with matching brass butt hinges.
