This project involved remodeling the first floor of a very unique mid-century modern home in Wauwatosa. The kitchen was gutted and a wall that once closed off the living room was torn down. A light quartz countertop, with waterfall edge details was installed to define the dark modern flat-paneled cabinetry. Under cabinet lighting and toe-kick lighting accent the spaces clean lines. A narrow linear stone backsplash installed vertically gives height to the space. A renovation of the first floor bath required a complete reconfiguration of the floor plan. Prior to the remodel the bathroom was never used, however a steam shower was installed for the clients' active lifestyle, allowing it to now be enjoyed regularly.

The marble tile backsplash unites the kitchen and pantry visually with a subtle but lively pattern. The colors in the backsplash tie all of the different elements of the kitchen together. The tile pattern is both traditional and "edgy." It is a 2 x 2 pattern, but each square is cut either in matchstick thin slivers or on a single diagonal thereby giving the vertical surface a lively look in a traditional design. One focus of the new kitchen is the IKEA farm sink that works almost like a command post with its two large bowls and pull-out faucet. Glass cabinets surrounding the window and in the pantry add a bit of sparkle with the reflective surface of the glass and allow special objects to be displayed. From a working perspective, the owner says the one of the best features of the kitchen design is the new lighting. Recessed LED downlights and LED undercabinet lights give illumination for all tasks. The undercabinet LED lighting does not get hot and it uses very little energy. They are mounted towards the front of the cabinet while a continuous strip of plug mold runs along the back part of the upper cabinets providing many outlets throughout the working areas of the kitchen without being visible. Plumbing showroom display designed by Phil Rudick, Architect, Urban kitchens + Baths. Custom cabinets were crafted in a medium gray painted finish using Eclipse euro styled cabinets by W.W. Wood. kitchen features a Rohl porcelain apron kitchen sink, Jenn Air dishwasher, built in refrigerator, coffeemaker and steam oven. The wine cooler tower by Sub Zero was designed as a flush inset built in installation. An under counter ice maker by Scotsman features unique sized cubes. Framed wood doors with glass provides interest and relief.

Where's the fridge!!? This beautifully built custom kitchen includes an under counter refrigerator and freezer allowing for more windows to capture the extraordinary view. This project was completed with Wolf Appliances, extra thick custom quartz countertop, and a side bar with reed glass cabinet fronts that allow for natural light with windows behind beaming through.

Rustic, warm modern materials are highlighted by white walls and white v-groove ceilings.
