Regan Baker Design Inc.A re-creation of a 1950’s home in SF, is now family friendly and perfect for entertaining. A closed floor plan was opened to maximize the beautiful downtown bay view. Architectural finishes, fixtures and accessories were selected to marry the client's rustic, yet modern industrial style. Overall pallette was inspired by the client's existing sofa and side chairs. INSPIRED KITCHEN DESIGNWhat Stacey was after was a Shaker door with little ornamentation as possible – no extra beveling or grooves, no visible seams, and a 90° angle between the recessed panel and the edges of the frames. That last point about the 90° angle is why Stacey chose Scherr’s over Semihandmade Doors, another popular manufacturer of custom doors for IKEA kitchen cabinets. If you look very very carefully at SHM’s Supermatte Shaker door, you’ll notice what we mean.

Castle Building & RemodelingThis beautiful St. Anthony, MN mid-century home needed some major updates to the kitchen and main bathroom. The original 1972 kitchen and bathroom were extremely dark and quirky – an old bidet in the bathroom and cooktop shoved into the corner of the kitchen made it difficult for the homeowners to cook and clean efficiently in both spaces. The remodel gave them the opportunity to create a new layout in each of the rooms – the kitchen was opened to the eat-in area, the cooktop was relocated for a better work triangle, and more counter space was added through a small island. Custom bench seats were added to the eat-in area for added storage and character to the kitchen. The bathroom was reconfigured to eliminate the old 70’s bidet, and a useless storage cabinet, which allowed us to add a large, walk in shower with bench and a separate soaking tub. The same cabinetry and earthy color palette was used in the bathroom to create cohesion and to emphasize the mid-century character of the home. What was created is much brighter, more functional and is a timeless yet new space for the homeowners to enjoy as they age in the home.

INSPIRED KITCHEN DESIGNThis photo really gives you a sense of how the new peninsula brings things into much closer reach for the cook. The sink is Kraus and the countertop is soapstone. If that faucet looks familiar, you’re not having déjà vu. It’s the same one from last week’s kitchen! Just like IKD customer Liz, Stacey raved about the champagne color and loves how much it complements the grey Shaker style doors.
INSPIRED KITCHEN DESIGNThe open shelving was custom-built by Stacey’s husband to hold maximum weight. Stacey wanted to maintain some of the freedom of the door-free cabinets in the previous kitchen. The corner shelves hold items in frequent rotation so they never have a chance to get dusty.
INSPIRED KITCHEN DESIGNJust like Captain Ahab pursued the elusive white whale Moby Dick, IKD Customer Stacey sought a true Shaker style door for her IKEA kitchen. Unlike Captain Ahab, Stacey’s story has a happy ending. She found the true Shaker style door she was seeking at Scherr’s Cabinet & Doors.

INSPIRED KITCHEN DESIGNA BlueStar oven and range can handle many pots and pans at once, and the ZLINE range hood is powerful enough to get rid of smokiness or grease. While you can find both of those items online, the Boston Terrier is one-of-a-kind.
INSPIRED KITCHEN DESIGNOn the other side of the breakfast nook is the pantry. Look at all of those cabinets! Personally, we don’t think there’s anything this pantry section couldn’t hold. The two-tone look is pulled seamlessly into this section of the kitchen as well.
