This beautiful whole home remodel was done for a family in Ross California, and no expense was spared in giving them what they dreamed of. A page torn out of a Tuscan retreat, and and brought to their home in California. The beams throughout this home were purchased from a railroad company dating back almost 200 years old. Each one was painstakingly fit into place by carving them to fit the existing ceiling with chainsaws, planers, and lifted into place. There were more than 150 placed throughout the home, and is a finishing touch to this extensive and beautiful transformation. Truly a once in a lifetime project we were blessed to have done.

The entire back of the house accommodates a kitchen that pays homage to great European country kitchens. Kitchen countertops are Bianco Carrara honed marble, antique reclaimed terra cotta tile flooring, and a glazed hexagonal oxford gray backsplash. The perimeter countertops are 3cm Bianco Carrara honed marble with an ogee edge and the island features 5cm Bianco Carrara honed marble with a simpler flat polished edge. The 4” backsplash extends around the entire perimeter expect behind the stove which is a full height Bianco Carrara splash.

A California Mission-style home in Hillsborough was designed by the architect Farro Esslatt. The clients had an extensive contemporary collection and wanted a warm mix of contemporary and traditional furnishings.

Taber & Company handcrafts and finishes custom kitchen islands wood countertops from old growth reclaimed and salvaged wood. Taber & Company mills wood on site from logs with the ability to cut any thickness and lengths.

The clients engaged Le Gourmet Kitchen to design a kitchen that complemented their Mediterranean Styled home. The key was to provide a setting conducive to cooking along with ample countertops for entertaining. The kitchen was small in comparison to the rest of the home so opening the kitchen to the family room created a Great Room and increased visual space. The existing floor plan still lacked the room to incorporate everything the clients requested. The original plan featured a walk in and Butler’s pantry adjacent to the kitchen. We integrated these areas to increase the square footage. This required removing a structural sheer wall and engineering a sizable steel beam with posts to carry the load. These were concealed inside the mantel hood and opposing pantry cabinets. The added space gave us the area needed to provide the family the kitchen they desired. The featured S/S and glass fronted appliances balance the environment, whilst the wood counters softens the room and provides a great food preparation surface. The seating area incorporates tambour doors, when opened reveal everything necessary to pay bills, do homework or select a recipe for tomorrow’s dinner. Based on French country styling, this kitchen offers contrasts between light and dark while maintaining an wide-open aesthetic. A custom designed wood hood with integrated storage, hutch with glass doors and carved details, open shelves and detailed crown assembly lend a unique appeal to the space. We used an integrated Sub-Zero refrigerator and hid the microwave behind cabinet doors to reduce the visual impact of the appliances. A bow front set of drawers is the highlight on the public side of the island and a farmhouse style sink accents the working side.
