Two teenage boys means a lot of laundry. But two teenage boys who also play sports? Now *that's* a lot of laundry. Additional counter space, cabinetry, and shelves for laundry baskets gave this homeowner the space to tackle (pun intended) massive loads of laundry.

Our Austin studio decided to go bold with this project by ensuring that each space had a unique identity in the Mid-Century Modern style bathroom, butler's pantry, and mudroom. We covered the bathroom walls and flooring with stylish beige and yellow tile that was cleverly installed to look like two different patterns. The mint cabinet and pink vanity reflect the mid-century color palette. The stylish knobs and fittings add an extra splash of fun to the bathroom. The butler's pantry is located right behind the kitchen and serves multiple functions like storage, a study area, and a bar. We went with a moody blue color for the cabinets and included a raw wood open shelf to give depth and warmth to the space. We went with some gorgeous artistic tiles that create a bold, intriguing look in the space. In the mudroom, we used siding materials to create a shiplap effect to create warmth and texture – a homage to the classic Mid-Century Modern design. We used the same blue from the butler's pantry to create a cohesive effect. One of the few truly American architectural styles, the Craftsman/Prairie style was developed around the turn of the century by a group of Midwestern architects who drew their inspiration from the surrounding landscape. The spacious yet cozy Thompson draws from features from both Craftsman/Prairie and Farmhouse styles for its all-American appeal. The eye-catching exterior includes a distinctive side entrance and stone accents as well as an abundance of windows for both outdoor views and interior rooms bathed in natural light. The floor plan is equally creative. The large floor porch entrance leads into a spacious 2,400-square-foot main floor plan, including a living room with an unusual corner fireplace. Designed for both ease and elegance, it also features a sunroom that takes full advantage of the nearby outdoors, an adjacent private study/retreat and an open plan kitchen and dining area with a handy walk-in pantry filled with convenient storage. Not far away is the private master suite with its own large bathroom and closet, a laundry area and a 800-square-foot, three-car garage. At night, relax in the 1,000-square foot lower level family room or exercise space. When the day is done, head upstairs to the 1,300 square foot upper level, where three cozy bedrooms await, each with its own private bath. The blue-grey kitchen cabinet color continues into the laundry and mudroom, tying these two functional spaces together. The floors in the kitchen and pantry area are wood, but In the mudroom, we changed up the floor to a black herringbone tile to hold up to moisture.

A dividing panel was included in the pull-out pantry, providing a place to hang brooms or dust trays. The top drawer below the counter houses a convenient hide-away ironing board. The original window was enlarged so it could be centered and allow great natural light into the room. The finished laundry room is a huge upgrade for the clients and they could not be happier! They now have plenty of storage space and counter space for improved organization and efficiency. Not only is the layout more functional, but the bright paint color, glamorous chandelier, elegant counter tops, show-stopping backsplash and sleek stainless-steel appliances make for a truly beautiful laundry room they can be proud of!
