  Free ebook, Creating the Ideal Kitchen. DOWNLOAD NOW   This Chicago client was tired of living with her outdated and not-so-functional kitchen and came in for an update. The goals were to update the look of the space, enclose the washer/dryer, upgrade the appliances and the cabinets. The space is located in turn-of-the-century brownstone, so we tried to stay in keeping with that era but provide an updated and functional space. One of the primary challenges of this project was a chimney that jutted into the space. The old configuration meandered around the chimney creating some strange configurations and odd depths for the countertop. We finally decided that just flushing out the wall along the chimney instead would create a cleaner look and in the end a better functioning space. It also created the opportunity to access those new pockets of space behind the wall with appliance garages to create a unique and functional feature. The new galley kitchen has the sink on one side and the range opposite with the refrigerator on the end of the run. This very functional layout also provides large runs of counter space and plenty of storage. The washer/dryer were relocated to the opposite side of the kitchen per the client's request, and hide behind a large custom bi-fold door when not in use. A wine fridge and microwave are tucked under the counter so that the primary visual is the custom mullioned doors with antique glass and custom marble backsplash design. White cabinetry, Carrera countertops and an apron sink complete the vintage feel of the space, and polished nickel hardware and light fixtures add a little bit of bling. Home to a large family, the brief for this laundry in Brighton was to incorporate as much storage space as possible. Our in-house Interior Designer, Jeyda has created a galley style laundry with ample storage without having to compromise on style.

In this renovation, the once-framed closed-in double-door closet in the laundry room was converted to a locker storage system with room for roll-out laundry basket drawer and a broom closet. The laundry soap is contained in the large drawer beside the washing machine. Behind the mirror, an oversized custom medicine cabinet houses small everyday items such as shoe polish, small tools, masks...etc. The off-white cabinetry and slate were existing. To blend in the off-white cabinetry, walnut accents were added with black hardware. The wallcovering was custom-designed to feature line drawings of the owner's various dog breeds. A magnetic chalkboard for pinning up art creations and important reminders finishes off the side gable next to the full-size upright freezer unit.

We opened up this unique space to expand the Laundry Room and Mud Room to incorporate a large expansion for the Pantry Area that included a Coffee Bar and Refrigerator. This remodeled space allowed more functionality and brought in lots of sunlight into the spaces.

What was originally designed as one room, the laundry has now been designed with two functions - a mud room and laundry room. The existing layout, a 'sea of cupboards' was re-worked to include concealed pull out laundry baskets/bins, a low bench seat with shoe storage below and pigeon holes located above with an integrated clothes drying rail. A full height cupboard was also added for storing essentials such as brooms & ironing boards. An additional double power outlet was incorporated for charging items such as vacuum cleaners.

This Lafayette, California, modern farmhouse is all about laid-back luxury. Designed for warmth and comfort, the home invites a sense of ease, transforming it into a welcoming haven for family gatherings and events. Open and closed shelving, artful tiles, and a spacious counter converge, offering functionality and style in this laundry room. Plus, there's a designated space under the counter for the beloved dog, Bodhi. Project by Douglah Designs. The laundry room was a major transformation that needed to occur, once a dark and gloomy dungeon is now a bright, and whimsical room that would make anyone be happy, doing the household chore of laundry. The Havana Ornate Silver tile flooring and Ice White backsplash tile translated nicely against the custom cabinetry. To accommodate the newest furriest member of the family, a hidden custom litter box pull-out was included in the cabinetry and cute cat door that would allow the new kitten to get in and out through its very own passageway.
