ecore habitat Studio The backyard is proposed with a vintage feeling. Space is combining pathways, patio, fireplace, outdoor kitchen, swing, and colorful and different plant turfs. The backyard was converted into an ideal environment to hear the bird noises and rustling sounds of nature.

Green Tree Garden Design LtdAffectionately referred to as the 'White Garden,' the space has been transformed. A narrow path, filled with white pebbles, surrounds the tree, and the area has been planted with structural evergreens, and white flowered perennials to create an elegant and tranquil space. A large urn has been positioned in front of the weeping Pear to create some vertical interest, and mirror the Yew shrubs that flank one of the path entrances. The Yews will be clipped to shape next year.

Ivy & BloomThis small inner city courtyard was overgrown, dark and uninviting. It had good privacy provided by layered hedges of star jasmine and port wine magnolia. Once these were trimmed into shape, space was created for a further layer of planting - hellebores for seasonal interest and trailing soleirolia (babys tears) to soften the wall. As the courtyard functions as an extension of the living space, it really needed some year round interest and colour. A burgundy feature pot was used as a basis for the colour scheme of burgundy and silver. Plants included heucheras, hostas, a red acer palmatum, camellias, agapanthus and anenome japonica. Trailing plants will break up the solid wall. A daphne and violets were included for fragrance also.
Barbara Wilson Landscape Architect, LLCThis cute backyard patio was renovated to provide an outdoor seating area with a firepit by Benintoshape, bar seating for entertaining and a cozy dining area adjacent to the kitchen. Barbara designed perennials and bulbs to be added to the existing shade garden spaces and new plantings were incorporated to provide more seasonal color and interest in the rose garden. New shade tolerant shrubs and groundcovers were added under a large Norway Maple tree that cast considerable shade in the backyard. A new stepping stone path provided access to the nearby sunny lawn and playscape in the side yard. The back and side yards were enclosed with a picket fence to keep the pets and children safe. Comfortable lounge furniture by Janus et Cie and pillows by Elaine Smith were placed in the renovated patio space. The dining area was covered with a Tuuci cantilever umbrella for additional shade in the afternoon.
Putney DesignThe old tea roses in front of this colonial era Cape Cod home were looking a bit tired, and I suspect this "The Fairy" shrub rose is actually closer to what might have been originally planted in this location. With small compound blooms and low size it is perfectly in scale with the compact fence and yard, and cheers passersby on their way to the beach in early to mid summer! Easy to grow as low shrub or trained on small fence/ trellis. Plant in sun, in well drained soil. Hardy to zone 5 or colder if happy, grown on it's own root stock to if frosted let it come back.

LAND BY DESIGNThis discerning client sought maximum use from an otherwise neglected side yard. Diagonal Trex decking is used here in the narrow side yard to give the appearance of greater width to the new deck / patio area. The new outdoor spaces include a dining space and a living space cleverly carved out and here a statue of Buddha is backed by naturalistic bamboo which adds to the Asian inspired / zen ambiance of the design of the deck.
