This stunning home is a combination of the best of traditional styling with clean and modern design, creating a look that will be as fresh tomorrow as it is today. Traditional white painted cabinetry in the kitchen, combined with the slab backsplash, a simpler door style and crown moldings with straight lines add a sleek, non-fussy style. An architectural hood with polished brass accents and stainless steel appliances dress up this painted kitchen for upscale, contemporary appeal. The kitchen islands offers a notable color contrast with their rich, dark, gray finish. The stunning bar area is the entertaining hub of the home. The second bar allows the homeowners an area for their guests to hang out and keeps them out of the main work zone. The family room used to be shut off from the kitchen. Opening up the wall between the two rooms allows for the function of modern living. The room was full of built ins that were removed to give the clean esthetic the homeowners wanted. It was a joy to redesign the fireplace to give it the contemporary feel they longed for. Their used to be a large angled wall in the kitchen (the wall the double oven and refrigerator are on) by straightening that out, the homeowners gained better function in the kitchen as well as allowing for the first floor laundry to now double as a much needed mudroom room as well.

The homeowners of this wanted to create an informal year-round residence for their active family that reflected their love of the outdoors and time spent in ski and camping lodges. The result is a luxurious, yet understated, comfortable kitchen/dining area that exudes a feeling of warmth and relaxation. The open floor plan offers views throughout the first floor, while large picture windows integrate the outdoors and fill the space with light. A door to the three-season room offers easy access to an outdoor kitchen and living area. The dark wood floors, cabinets with natural wood grain, leathered stone counters, and coffered ceilings offer the ambiance of a 19th century mountain lodge, yet this is combined with painted wainscoting and woodwork to brighten and modernize the space. A blue center island in the kitchen adds a fun splash of color, while a gas fireplace and lit upper cabinets adds a cozy feeling. A separate butler’s pantry contains additional refrigeration, storage, and a wine cooler. Challenges included integrating the perimeter cabinetry into the crown moldings and coffered ceilings, so the lines of millwork are aligned through multiple living spaces. In particular, there is a structural steel column on the corner of the raised island around which oak millwork was wrapped to match the living room columns. Another challenge was concealing second floor plumbing in the beams of the coffered ceiling.

For a family who routinely has 40+ family member get-togethers, an upscale house that feels grand but well enjoyed was top priority. We updated the kitchen, living room, dining room, guest house and bathroom in this custom renovation. The kitchen hosts two islands for ideal functionality for large gatherings, and flow out to the pool in summer months. Custom cabinetry hides the dishwashers, and refrigerator drawers. The stained beams in the guest house match the kitchen for a cohesive feel. The shiplap and custom stained wet bar cabinetry bring formality while the zero entry pool bath is whimsical and fun.

Despite the fact that you can see all the necessary kitchen furniture and household appliances here, the kitchen looks spacious thanks to the correct arrangement of the furniture and several types of lighting. In the center of the kitchen, there is a large beautiful rug that draws the eye in acting as an effective accent here. A number of abstract paintings by contemporary artists make the ambience of the kitchen kind of mysterious. Nestled on a quiet street in a small town outside of Boston, this transitional style home underwent a massive overhaul. While the front facade was left largely untouched, save for a mudroom addition to connect the main house and the garage, the back of the house was extended for multiple living spaces. The addition includes a spacious family room with coffered ceiling, built-in benches, and a large sun-filled breakfast nook. The ten foot long custom oak table can seat fifteen! Above the family room addition is the new master suite- the large bathroom with freestanding tub and custom steam shower features gorgeous marble tile in a laser-cut geometric pattern. Downstairs, a new laundry room and office are divided from the hallway to the mudroom by glass pocket doors. The remaining existing rooms were updated with new finishes and paint in shades of gray to refresh this now beautiful home.

Incorporating architectural design elements such as this herringbone ceiling, custom hood and range, wood floor, and custom backsplash create the perfect kitchen.
