This Kitchen space was perfectly remodeled for a busy family with three boys. Plenty of light, space, and compartments for everything under the sun! The eleven foot long Calcutta marble slab island underneath the unique glass light fixtures is spacious and truly adds to the modern feel.

We planned a thoughtful redesign of this beautiful home while retaining many of the existing features. We wanted this house to feel the immediacy of its environment. So we carried the exterior front entry style into the interiors, too, as a way to bring the beautiful outdoors in. In addition, we added patios to all the bedrooms to make them feel much bigger. Luckily for us, our temperate California climate makes it possible for the patios to be used consistently throughout the year. The original kitchen design did not have exposed beams, but we decided to replicate the motif of the 30" living room beams in the kitchen as well, making it one of our favorite details of the house. To make the kitchen more functional, we added a second island allowing us to separate kitchen tasks. The sink island works as a food prep area, and the bar island is for mail, crafts, and quick snacks. We designed the primary bedroom as a relaxation sanctuary – something we highly recommend to all parents. It features some of our favorite things: a cognac leather reading chair next to a fireplace, Scottish plaid fabrics, a vegetable dye rug, art from our favorite cities, and goofy portraits of the kids. --- Project designed by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada. You don’t always need new kitchen cabinetry, sometimes making what you have work is a great solution! This beautiful kitchen in the Lowcountry needed a refresh so we knocked down their existing breakfast bar creating a peninsula where all new quartz countertops were now the same height. Pushing in a bank of counter stools increased the seating in this busy kitchen – the heart of the home! Adding a timeless touch of white subway tile lightened and brightened the entire kitchen and bounced light off the new countertops!

This was a fascinating project for incredible clients. To optimize costs and timelines, our Montecito studio took the existing Craftsman style of the kitchen and transformed it into a more contemporary one. We reused the perimeter cabinets, repainted for a fresh look, and added new walnut cabinets for the island and the appliances wall. The solitary pendant for the kitchen island was the focal point of our design, leaving our clients with a beautiful and everlasting kitchen remodel. --- Project designed by Montecito interior designer Margarita Bravo. This kitchen is hot! The fire engine red KitchenAid range makes a big statement in this row house kitchen renovation for two hard working first responders. Sherwin Williams Pure White #7005 on the back cabinets and Farrow & Ball's Down Pipe #26 on the island provide a clean and soothing backdrop.

Recycled timber flooring has been carefully selected and laid to create a back panel on the island bench. Push to open doors are disguised by the highly featured boards. Natural light floods into this room via skylights and windows letting nature indoors.

The larger footprint allowed us to relocate major appliances and provide a generous amount of storage and prep space including a food safe butcher block to the right of the range. Natural wood elements such as the chopping block, reclaimed shelves and beautiful new floors add character and warmth to the all-white kitchen. The subway tiles’ subtle texture adds depth to the simple white-on-white motif and the change to a herringbone pattern behind the range adds visual interest without feeling too busy. What transforms an ordinary box into something unique and special? Details! Here is a list of the few highlighted details that might have otherwise been overlooked yet were incorporated for a beautiful layered effect. 1. Exposed door hinges 2. Two different door profiles, shaker and slab 3. Textured glass versus clear glass 4. Framed cabinetry 5. Two different countertop profile edges, straight edge and Bryn edge 6. Quartz slab for backsplash with cut out that mimics the molding detail of the hood. 7. Different paint finishes, high gloss black on hood and satin on remaining cabinetry…the list continues.
