When our client first started working with us, they were flexible and open, there was no clear budget, extent of works, priorities or clear brief. All they knew was that for the 17 years they had lived in the house nothing had been changed. Even the previous owners’ curtains were still up in the lounge! We were excited to be able to guide our clients through the journey, which started with a strategy ‘blue sky thinking’ meeting. Little by little we narrowed the requirements. When the semi-retired couple welcomed their first grandchild, the #1 priority was to rework every room facing the garden to create flow and views for family time. The style, the budget, the process was all taken care off in due course. However, the main contribution from us as architects was to set the foundational strategy to create the spaces, they most desired.

Overview: -Young family with two small children wanted open, livable home, conducive to seeing everywhere and being together -The kitchen was isolated but was key to project’s success, as it is the central axis of the first level Solutions: -Remove one of the two staircases, plus the powder room, pantry, and remove or shorten walls to create the desired open floor plan -New configuration opens the kitchen to every room on lower level, except formal dining -New double islands triple previous counter space and doubles previous storage -Six bar stools offer ample seating for casual family meals and entertaining -With a nod to the children, all upholstery in the Kitchen/ Breakfast Room are indoor/outdoor fabrics -Removing & shortening walls between kitchen/family room/informal dining allows views, a total house connection, plus the architectural changes in these adjoining rooms enhances the kitchen experience -Cream cabinetry contrasts with dark stain accents on the island, hood & ceiling beams -Back splash is over-scaled subway tile; pewter cabinetry hardware -Fantasy Brown granite counters have a "leather-ed" finish -The focal point and center of activity now stems from the kitchen – it’s truly the Heart of this Home.

Claire et Jemmy, un couple britannique parents de deux enfants souhaitant optimiser leur appartement typique haussmannien en alliant modernité et charme authentique. Cet appartement de 110m² situé au 14ème arrondissement de Paris avec une distribution inadaptée et espaces mal agencé disposait de mobiliers et la déco très modeste. Nous avons optimisé la répartition des pièces ainsi que le flux dans l'aménagement intérieur, ce qui a conduit à une amélioration significative de l'efficacité et de la fonctionnalité de l'espace. La cuisine qui était située à l'opposé du coin jour et de la salle à manger est déplacée à la toute proximité de cette dernière et la chambre parentale a pris sa place intégrant un dressing et un bibliothèque sur mesure. Un nouveau salon divisé en deux parties, conçu pour offrir polyvalence et diversité d'activités à la famille et aux invités. La première zone, idéale pour la télévision, les réceptions et les moments de partage, tandis que la deuxième zone, surélevée en une confortable estrade en bois, crée un espace chaleureux et intime pour les jeux, la lecture et la mise en valeur des objets d'art de Claire. Des niches élégantes accueillent les précieuses pièces de Madame, tandis que les tableaux s'exposent sur les murs sombres, mettant en valeur leur beauté. Pour faire rêver Claire et Jemmy de leur pays d’origine, la finition de cette zone est en moquette en laine vierge beige clair. La deuxième porte d’entrée du logement d’origine reste utilisable au besoin et située dans la chambre parentale mais peint et fondu dans le déco de cette pièce afin de la garder invisible. Le wc commun est agrandi, il n’est plus nécessaire de passer devant des chambres pour y accéder. En ce qui concerne le style et le design, sur ces caractéristiques traditionnelles est venu se créer un lieu à la décoration contemporaine, élégante, au caractère doux mais affirmé.

TASK Our international client has asked us to design a 3k sq ft turnkey residence at Jade Signature. The unit on the 50th floor affords spectacular views and a stunning 800 sq ft balcony that increases the total living space. SCOPE Britto Charette is responsible for all aspects of designing the 3-bedroom, 5-bathroom residence that is expected to be completed by the end of September 2017. Our design features custom built-ins, headboards, bedroom sets, and furnishings. HIGHLIGHTS We are especially fond of the sculptural Zaha Hadid sofa by B&b Italia.
