We chose cabinetry made from reclaimed barnwood from Country Roads Associates (in Holmes, NY) as well as a copper farmhouse sink to get the farmhouse feel. Adding the brick wall and reclaimed 2" thick barnwood beam shelving further enhanced the rustic nature of the design. The Caspian blue glass tile by Akdo Tile, stainless steel appliances (Viking, Bosch, Liebherrr, Thermador) and thin Dekton (by Cosentino) counter tops lend the contemporary touch. Not unlike other 1937 kitchens, this remodel required a solid amount of pre-planning to alleviate various old home obstacles and create a plan universal to 21st century living. The family residing within this home enjoys an artistic flair in life, thus the design reflects character. Yet they maintain a respect for the homes original era, thus throw-back design elements are integrated to achieve this functional and vibrant kitchen remodel. This rustic cabin is located on the beautiful Lake Martin in Alexander City, Alabama. It was constructed in the 1950's by Roy Latimer. The cabin was one of the first 3 to be built on the lake and offers amazing views overlooking one of the largest lakes in Alabama. The cabin's latest renovation was to the quaint little kitchen. The new tall cabinets with an elegant green play off the colors of the heart pine walls and ceiling. If you could only see the view from this kitchen window!

Located near Ennis, Montana, this cabin captures the essence of rustic style while maintaining modern comforts. Jack Watkins’ father, the namesake of the creek by which this home is built, was involved in the construction of the Old Faithful Lodge. He originally built the cabin for he and his family in 1917, with small additions and upgrades over the years. The new owners’ desire was to update the home to better facilitate modern living, but without losing the original character. Windows and doors were added, and the kitchen and bathroom were completely remodeled. Well-placed porches were added to further integrate the interior spaces to their adjacent exterior counterparts, as well as a mud room—a practical requirement in rural Montana. Today, details like the unique juniper handrail leading up to the library, will remind visitors and guests of its historical Western roots.
