DESIGN BRIEF “A family home to be lived in not just looked at” placed functionality as main priority in the extensive renovation of this coastal holiday home. Existing layout featured: – Inadequate bench space in the cooking zone – An impractical and overly large walk in pantry – Torturous angles in the design of the house made work zones cramped with a frenetic aesthetic at odds with the linear skylights creating disharmony and an unbalanced feel to the entire space. – Unappealing seating zones, not utilising the amazing view or north face space WISH LIST – Comfortable retreat for two people and extend family, with space for multiple cooks to work in the kitchen together or to a functional work zone for a couple. DESIGN SOLUTION – Removal of awkward angle walls creating more space for a larger kitchen – External angles which couldn’t be modified are hidden, creating a rational, serene space where the skylights run parallel to walls and fittings. NEW KITCHEN FEATURES – A highly functional layout with well-defined and spacious cooking, preparing and storage zones. – Generous bench space around cooktop and sink provide great workability in a small space – An inviting island bench for relaxing, working and entertaining for one or many cooks – A light filled interior with ocean views from several vantage points in the kitchen – An appliance/pantry with sliding for easy access to plentiful storage and hidden appliance use to keep the kitchen streamlined and easy to keep tidy. – A light filled interior with ocean views from several vantage points in the kitchen – Refined aesthetics which welcomes, relax and allows for individuality with warm timber open shelves curate collections that make the space feel like it’s a home always on holidays.

This full remodel project featured a complete redo of the existing kitchen. This mud room was previously the very tiny and dysfunctional laundry room. Converting it over to a mud room focusing on their pets. Designed and Planned by J. Graham of Bancroft Blue Design, the entire layout of the space was thoughtfully executed with unique blending of details, a one of a kind Coffer ceiling accent piece with integrated lighting, and a ton of features within the cabinets.

Cet appartement se situe sur les deux derniers étages d’un ancien hôtel particulier avec des vues incroyables sur les toits et les monuments de Paris. C’est donc un duplex de 220 m2 avec un grand espace de réception décloisonné et plusieurs chambres et salles de bain. Les clients ayant beaucoup résidé à l’étranger souhaitaient s’installer définitivement dans ce bel appartement. Pour cela il fallait le refaire à leur goût en collant à leur style de vie. Les enfants de ce couple sont grands, ils commencent eux-même à avoir des enfants. Certains habitent à l’étranger et il était important qu’il y ait un espace pour recevoir enfants et petits enfants confortablement. Nous avons respecté le style et les contraintes du bâtiment. Les anciens propriétaires avaient créé des pièces consécutives dans l’espace vie/convivialité et les clients préféraient ouvrir au maximum. Nous avons refait de nombreux éléments dans les règles de l’art, et notamment les moulures en staff, les vitraux à l’ancienne, la cheminée du salon qui avait été détruite ainsi que les parquets en très mauvais état. Toutes les fenêtres de l’appartement ont été changées en respectant le style de l’existant. Cheminée entièrement refaite à l’ancienne, menuiserie sur mesure en mdf peint et en placage chêne naturel, électrification LED des menuiseries, volets intérieurs en bois à panneaux sur fenêtres gueule de loup à l’ancienne. Vitraux entièrement refaits, moulures staff reprises entièrement... Tout le soin a été apporté à cette belle rénovation pour un résultat optimal. “With the open-concept floor plan, this kitchen needed to have a galley layout,” Ellison says. A large island helps delineate the kitchen from the other rooms around it. These include a dining area directly behind the kitchen and a living room to the right of the dining room. This main floor also includes a small TV lounge, a powder room and a mudroom. The house sits on a slope, so this main level enjoys treehouse-like canopy views out the back. The bedrooms are on the walk-out lower level.“These homeowners liked grays and neutrals, and their style leaned contemporary,” Ellison says. “They also had a very nice art collection.” The artwork is bright and colorful, and a neutral scheme provided the perfect backdrop for it. They also liked the idea of using durable laminate finishes on the cabinetry. The laminates have the look of white oak with vertical graining. The galley cabinets are lighter and warmer, while the island has the look of white oak with a gray wash for contrast. The countertops and backsplash are polished quartzite. The quartzite adds beautiful natural veining patterns and warm tones to the room.
