An outdated 1920's kitchen in Bayside Queens was turned into a refreshed, classic and timeless space that utilized the very limited space to its maximum capacity. The cabinets were once outdated and a dark brown that made the space look even smaller. Now, they are a bright white, accompanied by white subway tile, a light quartzite countertop and brushed brass hardware throughout. What made all the difference was the use of the dark porcelain floors as a great contrast to all the white. We were also diligent to keep the hold extractor a clear glass and stainless steel.

The classic modern design of this kitchen was planned for an active young family of four who uses the space as their central hub for gathering, eating and staying connected. Our goals were to create a beautiful and highly functional kitchen with an emphasis on cabinet organization, heated floors and incorporating a live edge slab countertop. We removed an existing bulky island and replaced it with a new island that while only 60 x 26 in size packs a powerful punch housing a baking center, trash/recycle center, microwave oven and cookbook storage. The island seemed the natural place for the gorgeous live edge slab coupled with vintage mercury glass light pendants that make for a truly stunning kitchen island. Polished carrara quartz perimeter counters pair beautifully with the watery blue-green glass backsplash tile. A message center conveniently located on a side panel of the refrigerator cabinet houses built in mailboxes, a family calendar and magnetic surface to display the children’s artwork. Beautiful "Transitional" kitchen design. Painted white, raised panel cabinets on the wall with a contrasting Cherry Slate island. The floors are a porcelain wood plank. Counter tops are two different materials. We used a beige quartz in the kitchen and quartzite on the island. The backsplash is largely 3x6 white ceramic subway tile with an accent above the cooktop. The hood is custom made by Matt Reidhead. This 1949, 1020 SF home was in need of an update to better suite the needs of the owners. As empty nesters, the couple wanted better storage, flow and livability. This project entailed design and construction on the entire home. We took one of the three bedrooms and split it to enlarge the tiny bathroom and to create a walk in closet. The new bath is accessible from both the Primary Bedroom closet and the main living room. The original Primary Bedroom Closet was closed off from the bedroom and opened into the kitchen to create a step-in pantry complete with wine storage unit. The new pantry keeps the kitchen free of counter top clutter. The kitchen remained in the same footprint as the original kitchen but moved the range to the sink run. This allowed better flow through the kitchen to the outside entertainment area. The cabinet depth on the pantry side of the kitchen is narrower than normal to allow a better walk through. This beautiful kitchen is Thyme & Place Design's take on modern farmhouse style. White painted full access custom cabinets frame the perimeter of the space and a custom soft gray paint adorns the island cabinetry. The former kitchen felt tight and lacked style while this new kitchen has attitude to spare. Sub Zero and Wolf appliances set the stage for a cooks delight. An antique barn beam was used to create the mantle and corbels for an updated version of a mantle hood. Ample storage for everything a gourmet cook could want was provided. Deep drawers hold all the pots and pans for daily cooking. Pull out storage holds oil and vinegar bottles for instant recipe inspiration. A magic corner cabinet allows access to mixing bowls and colanders. Extra height wall cabinet storage contains several sets of dishes and most used foods at the cook’s fingertips. The island does double duty providing seating for extra guests, presenting a large expanse of countertop for all types of cooking prep. There is a microwave drawer for quick reheats and the most coveted by a baker, a built-in mixer lift. Behind the island, an oversized glass door pantry closet holds everything from pantry staples, to holiday dishes and oversized cooking and serving pieces. The dining area found a renewed sense of purpose with the removal of walls which cut it off from the rest of the home. New sky lights and a updated sliding door flood the space with light and open the view to the beautiful yard. A coffee bar was added which includes additional dish storage and a beverage center. Black ebonized maple with honey bronze hardware is a dramatic balance to the white and grey of the kitchen. The space was further opened to the family room which is now an integrated part of the family’s gatherings. Honey Bronze accents are repeated in the light fixtures over the island and as an accent on the sconces above the coffee bar.

This kitchen was completely gutted; we closed off one of the doorways to expand the countertops, creating a u-shaped layout. We installed a matte white kitchen backsplash with white quartz countertops, and white shaker style cabinets. 12"x24" light gray porcelain tile flooring was installed and new stainless steel appliances. The walls were painted with Winter Snow OC-63 Benjamin Moore Regal Matte paint. Renovated by Germano Creative Interior Contracting Ltd.
