We revamped this 1960's Mid-Century Valley Glen home, by transforming its wide spacious kitchen into a modern mid-century style. We completely removed the old cabinets, reconfigured the layout, upgraded the electrical and plumbing system of the kitchen. We installed 6 dimmable recessed light cans, new GFI outlets, new switches, and brand-new appliances. We moved the stovetop's location opposite from its original location for the sake of space efficiency to create new countertop space for dining. Relocating the stovetop required creating a new gas line and ventilation pipeline. We installed 56 linear feet of beautiful custom flat-panel walnut and off-white cabinets that house the stovetop refrigerator, wine cellar, sink, and dishwasher seamlessly. The cabinets have beautiful gold brush hardware, self-close mechanisms, adjustable shelves, full extension drawers, and a spice rack pull-out. There is also a pullout drawer that glides out quietly for easy access to store essentials at the party. We installed 45 sq. ft. of teal subway tile backsplash adds a pop of color to the brown walnut, gold, and neutral color palette of the kitchen. The 45 sq. ft. of countertop is made of a solid color off-white custom-quartz which matches the color of the top cabinets of the kitchen. Paired with the 220 sq. ft. of natural off-white stone flooring tiles, the color combination of the kitchen embodies the essence of modern mid-century style.

This 7,500 square feet home, situated on a waterfront site in Sag Harbor, New York, was designed as a shared vacation home for four brothers and their families. A collaborative effort between the clients and Cecil Baker + Partners yielded a contemporary home that pays homage to the Eastern Long Island vernacular. The home is composed of three distinct volumes that step back from one another to optimize both the water view and privacy. The two outer wings take on familiar cedar-clad, pitched roof geometry while the central three-story glass box links them together and anchors the home. The two car garage, with a private living space above, projects from the main house via a breezeway, defining a private garden. The interior of the home integrates warm, tactile materials and clean modern lines. The use of full-height windows, floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall, and an operable overhead glass door creates an indoor-outdoor living experience and floods the home with natural light. The subtle choreography of the interior space lends flexibility to the Client for both social and private uses of the home. The first floor contains an open plan for the kitchen, living room, dining area and sunroom, and the second floor includes two full master suites facing the bay, a guest room with spectacular water views, and a children's room that overlooks the garden. The fully finished basement holds a large playroom, a gym, a full spa bath and a wine cellar. In addition, views in all directions are unobstructed from a third floor roof terrace. It was a fairly small footprint and we didn’t have the budget to move anything around, meaning the sink and appliance locations needed to remain. It made the design limiting but once it was all done we absolutely loved it. Another challenge was making the small space bright. With the white upper cabinets, white tile and countertops, and recessed lighting, the whole space ended up much brighter than we expected.

The Lincoln House is a residence in Rye Brook, NY. The project consisted of a complete gut renovation to a landmark home designed and built by architect Wilson Garces, a student of Mies van der Rohe, in 1961. The post and beam, mid-century modern house, had great bones and a super solid foundation integrated into the existing bedrock, but needed many updates in order to make it 21st-century modern and sustainable. All single pane glass panels were replaced with insulated units that consisted of two layers of tempered glass with low-e coating. New Runtal baseboard radiators were installed throughout the house along with ductless Mitsubishi City-Multi units, concealed in cabinetry, for air-conditioning and supplemental heat. All electrical systems were updated and LED recessed lighting was used to lower utility costs and create an overall general lighting, which was accented by warmer-toned sconces and pendants throughout. The roof was replaced and pitched to new interior roof drains, re-routed to irrigate newly planted ground cover. All insulation was replaced with spray-in foam to seal the house from air infiltration and to create a boundary to deter insects. Aside from making the house more sustainable, it was also made more modern by reconfiguring and updating all bathroom fixtures and finishes. The kitchen was expanded into the previous dining area to take advantage of the continuous views along the back of the house. All appliances were updated and a double chef sink was created to make cooking and cleaning more enjoyable. This traditional, classic, and elegant spacious kitchen features dark wood Rochon custom cabinets. There is a center island with exquisite lighting.
