This contemporary kitchen utilizes the natural light within the space. White slab doors adorned with polished chrome hardware accent the stainless steel counter tops with a built in stainless steel sink. A contrasting island situated adjacent to the gas cook top also offers bar height seating for guests. A built up white engineered quartz counter top tops off the island and wraps around the corner. Frosted glass upper cabinets add storage and aesthetic, adding an industrial feel to the overall kitchen.

This kitchen is a part of a new construction of a home on a horse farm. The homeowner is a horse enthusiast and wanted the new home to look and feel like a modern farm house. Much of the wood features are meant to recall the look of a barn, even the wood used on the staircase is reclaimed wood used from the original barn that was on the property. The kitchen uses Scavolini cabinetry and is the focal point of life at the farm house. They are a grey oak veneer with a super glossy lacquer clear coat, slab door with a channel instead of handles for a modern look. A long island stretches the expanse of the room providing plentiful seating and counter space for hosting. An appliance garage hides the coffee maker and other mini appliances that usually living on the counter top. A stainless steel refrigerator balances on the other side. The kitchen is situated in the great room with the living area featuring a gas fireplace and dining table (not shown). This modern kitchen in Playa Del Rey CA gives off a chic look with it's wooden frameless cabinets, calacatta quartz countertop, gorgeous backsplash and under cabinet lighting.

Galley kitchen layout with stainless steel countertop put over walnut wood kitchen cabinets to keep the denting and dinging effect to a minimum. The cabinetry is made of polished walnut wool material to bring the warmth and durability to complete the transitional style.

The owners were downsizing from a large ornate property down the street and were seeking a number of goals. Single story living, modern and open floor plan, comfortable working kitchen, spaces to house their collection of artwork, low maintenance and a strong connection between the interior and the landscape. Working with a long narrow lot adjacent to conservation land, the main living space (16 foot ceiling height at its peak) opens with folding glass doors to a large screen porch that looks out on a courtyard and the adjacent wooded landscape. This gives the home the perception that it is on a much larger lot and provides a great deal of privacy. The transition from the entry to the core of the home provides a natural gallery in which to display artwork and sculpture. Artificial light almost never needs to be turned on during daytime hours and the substantial peaked roof over the main living space is oriented to allow for solar panels not visible from the street or yard.

This tropical great room's design was inspired by the villas in Bali. The vaulted ceiling is designed with reed thatch and ebony stained natural beams and rafters. The kitchen has a waterfall edge kitchen island, ebony cabinets, natural basket pendants, and cream colored tiles. The glass sliding and pocketing doors opening to the courtyard gardens are teak. The floors are a cream porcelain tile. The white sofa has modern and timeless comfort, the woven chairs speak to the tropical style throughout the home. The dining table is monkey-pod wood.

A full chef's kitchen was created out of two small rooms and a hallway. Rich, dark wood cabinetry is enhanced by warm gray walls that pick up on the gray tones of the countertop. Warm, gray-brown tile floors complete the transformation. Shannon DeCelle Photography
