In a full-scale design, renovation, and furnishings project, we completely transformed this space for our clients by infusing it with only the most charming of details. The first-floor expanded kitchen features smoky black cabinetry and textural brick walls, while the second-floor main suite boasts incredibly well-appointed built-in closets that add extensive storage all while incorporating sleek colonial-inspired character back into the space. The overall scope of this project required a hefty, multi-floor, full gut “floverhaul” i.e., the overhaul of a home’s floor plan with attention to spatial flow and in this case storage. The areas we renovated head-to-toe in order to transform this house into our clients’ dream home include the kitchen, entryway, pantry, mudroom, and main suite.

This shingle style cottage was a complete renovation, enhancing its already charming attributes with new, modern amenities. Renovations included enclosing an existing sunroom, new windows and new roof dormers to gain access to a walk-out roof deck.

Craig O’Connell Architecture (COA) designed an open and light-filled kitchen remodel for this home in San Francisco’s historic Liberty Hill district. The design features Italian rustic influences and modern amenities, such as an industrial stove. This project is all about connecting interior living spaces with the garden. Despite its location on a desirable corner plot, the original 1930s house had a conventional design with individual rooms and small window openings that separated interior and exterior spaces. The aims for the project were to bring more natural light into the interior, to make best use of long views out towards the widening garden, and to open up existing rooms to create a feeling of openness and flow between spaces. To achieve this, the ground floor was extended and adapted to create a series of staggered spaces that open directly onto the garden terrace. Unlike typical straight-line façades, which tend to divide inside and outside, the zig-zag façade helps to integrate the interior and exterior. Living, dining and kitchen spaces are positioned along the stepped façade, each space having a dual aspect, which fills the interior with natural light, and creates a variety of views towards the garden. The openness of the view was the outcome of careful design coordination with the Structural Engineer, Axiom Structures, and resulted in the elimination of all intermediate supports, achieving an entirely column-free space spanning 12m, and 14m unobstructed glass façade.

Our clients requested arched doorways seen in our other work - often original to older homes. We happily obliged as it works with the Spanish-style architecture of the building. Featured in the kitchen are; black Bertazonni hood, stainless steel electric range, black soapstone countertop, custom brass and glass shelves, mixed cabinet styles, and blue cabinets.
