Removing the barrier between the kitchen and dining/living room was the best (and–in my mind–only) solution for improving the old kitchen layout. The new space not only allowed better flow and interaction between meal preparation and everyone else in the house, the new counter would become my family's favorite dining spot.

Micro-cement is incredibly versatile and can be manipulated into any shape, in any direction. This is just one example of how is can be applied in a very on-trend, universal way. We love the bold charcoal components next the the 'setting plaster' by Farrow & Ball- the perfect backdrop to marry the tones of the space together. Also, you've got to love a good wine fridge!

This kitchen was totally retro, complete with black and white checkerboard tiles, but we have upgraded it to a super functional, contemporary cooking and dining space.

The kitchen in this Mid Century Modern home is a true showstopper. The designer expanded the original kitchen footprint and doubled the kitchen in size. The walnut dividing wall and walnut cabinets are hallmarks of the original mid century design, while a mix of deep blue cabinets provide a more modern punch. The triangle shape is repeated throughout the kitchen in the backs of the counter stools, the ends of the waterfall island, the light fixtures, the clerestory windows, and the walnut dividing wall.
