In the kitchen, which was recently remodeled by the previous owners, we wanted to keep as many of the newer elements (that were just purchased) as possible. However, we did also want to incorporate some new MCM wood accents back into the space to tie it to the living room, dining room and breakfast areas. We added all new walnut cabinets on the refrigerator wall, which balances the new geometric wood accent wall in the breakfast area. We also incorporated new quartz countertops, new streamlined plumbing fixtures and new lighting fixtures to add modern MCM appeal. In addition, we added a geometric marble backsplash and diamond shaped cabinet hardware at the bar and on some of the kitchen drawers.

Located on the dramatic North Cornwall coast and within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the clients for this remarkable contemporary family home shared our genuine passion for sustainability, the environment and ecology. One of the first Hempcrete block buildings in Cornwall, the dwelling’s unique approach to sustainability employs the latest technologies and philosophies whilst utilising traditional building methods and techniques. Wherever practicable the building has been designed to be ‘cement-free’ and environmentally considerate, with the overriding ambition to have the capacity to be ‘off-grid’. Wood-fibre boarding was used for the internal walls along with eco-cork insulation and render boards. Lime render and plaster throughout complete the finish. Externally, there are concrete-free substrates to all external landscaping and a natural pool surrounded by planting of native species aids the diverse ecology and environment throughout the site. This kitchen was only made possible by a combination of manipulating the architecture of the house and redefining the spaces. Some structural limitations gave rise to elegant solutions in the design of the demising walls and the ceiling over the kitchen. This ceiling design motif was repeated for the breakfast area and the dining room adjacent. The former porch was captured to the interior for an enhanced breakfast room. New defining walls established a language that was repeated in the cabinet layout. A walnut eating bar is shaped to match the walnut cabinets that surround the fridge. This bridge shape was again repeated in the shape of the countertop. Two-tone cabinets of black gloss lacquer and horizontal grain-matched walnut create a striking contrast to each other and are complimented by the limestone floor and stainless appliances. By intentionally leaving the cooktop wall empty of uppers that tough the ceiling, a simple solution of walnut backsplash panels adds to the width perception of the room. This client asked me to provide them with ample storage in their ski vacation condo's kitchen. I wanted to take advantage of the end wall to maximize the countertop and give them more storage with a cabinet under the new range that is 92" wide. Even though the cabinet is well supported, the cabinet opening has no center divider which would hinder any individual seeking out pots and kettles from below. The other elements fell into logical places including a generous pantry to the right of the refrigerator. In trying to maintain the sleek look of the backsplash, I worked diligently with the electrician to avoid outlets in the backsplash area as much as possible using Task Lighting's angled power strips. I love working with the outlet strips that tuck up under the cabinetry; they are brilliantly discreet. One of the special elements in this kitchen is the log pedestal base under the cantilevered bar top that is a continuation of the cap on the half wall. This log is from my neighbor's tree which they were cutting down in perfect timing with this renovation. Other components from this same tree are incorporated elsewhere in the condo. Keeping the property’s original and distinctive features in the beautiful Essex countryside, the kitchen stands at the centre of the home where the function is met with a warm and inviting charm that blends seamlessly with its surroundings. Our clients had set their minds on creating an awe-inspiring challenge of breathing new life into their historic property, where this extensive restoration project would soon include a stunning Handmade Kitchen Company classic English kitchen at its heart. They wanted something that would take them on culinary adventures and allow them to host lively gatherings. After looking through our portfolio of projects, our clients found one particular kitchen they wanted to make happen in their home, so we copied elements of the design but made it their own. This is our Classic Shaker with a cock beaded front frame with mouldings. The past was certainly preserved and to this day, the focus remains on achieving a delicate balance that pays homage to the past while incorporating contemporary sensibilities to transform it into a forever family home. A larger, more open family space was created which enabled the client to tailor the whole room to their requirements. The colour choices throughout the whole project were a combination of Slaked Lime Deep No.150 and Basalt No.221, both from Little Greene. Due to the space, an L-shaped layout was designed, with a kitchen that was practical and built with zones for cooking and entertaining. The strategic positioning of the kitchen island brings the entire space together. It was carefully planned with size and positioning in mind and had adequate space around it. On the end of the island is a bespoke pedestal table that offers comfy circle seating. No classic English country kitchen is complete without a Shaws of Darwen Sink. Representing enduring quality and a tribute to the shaker kitchen’s heritage, this iconic handcrafted fireclay sink is strategically placed beneath one of the beautiful windows. It not only enhances the kitchen’s charm but also provides practicality, complemented by an aged brass Perrin & Rowe Ionian lever handle tap and a Quooker Classic Fusion in patinated brass. This handcrafted drinks dresser features seamless organisation where it balances practicality with an enhanced visual appeal. It bridges the dining and cooking space, promoting inclusivity and togetherness. Tapping into the heritage of a pantry, this walk-in larder we created for our client is impressive and matches the kitchen’s design. It certainly elevates the kitchen experience with bespoke artisan shelves and open drawers. What else has been added to the space, is a Liebherr side-by-side built-in fridge freezer and a Liebherr full-height integrated wine cooler in black. We believe every corner in your home deserves the touch of exquisite craftsmanship and that is why we design utility rooms that beautifully coexist with the kitchen and accommodate the family’s everyday functions. Continuing the beautiful walnut look, the backdrop and shelves of this delightful media wall unit make it a truly individual look. We hand-painted the whole unit in Little Greene Slaked Lime Deep. Connecting each area is this full-stave black American walnut dining table with a 38mm top. The curated details evoke a sense of history and heritage. With it being a great size, it offers the perfect place for our clients to hold gatherings and special occasions with the ones they love the most.
