The design of this remodel of a small two-level residence in Noe Valley reflects the owner's passion for Japanese architecture. Having decided to completely gut the interior partitions, we devised a better-arranged floor plan with traditional Japanese features, including a sunken floor pit for dining and a vocabulary of natural wood trim and casework. Vertical grain Douglas Fir takes the place of Hinoki wood traditionally used in Japan. Natural wood flooring, soft green granite and green glass backsplashes in the kitchen further develop the desired Zen aesthetic. A wall to wall window above the sunken bath/shower creates a connection to the outdoors. Privacy is provided through the use of switchable glass, which goes from opaque to clear with a flick of a switch. We used in-floor heating to eliminate the noise associated with forced-air systems.

A coastal Scandinavian renovation project, combining a Victorian seaside cottage with Scandi design. We wanted to create a modern, open-plan living space but at the same time, preserve the traditional elements of the house that gave it it's character.

After years of renting out the house, the owners of this 1916 Craftsman were ready to make it their forever home. Both enthusiastic cooks, an updated kitchen was at the top of the list. Updating the fireplace, as well as two bathrooms in the house were also important. The homeowners passion for honoring the age of home, while also updating it, was at the forefront of our design. The end result beautifully blends the older elements with the new.

The existing kitchen was VERY traditional which did not suite the new homeowners taste and more so their functional needs. They LOVE to cook and have all the kitchen tools to create anything from Italian dishes, Asian cuisine to the finest pastries. They needed space to store all of their cooking utensils and their current kitchen just didn’t offer that. The kitchen was confined and adding additional square footage was not possible, therefore our biggest challenge was to fit all their storage and appliance needs into the existing space. Cabinets: Dura Supreme, Camden Cherry, Cashew and Lauren HDF painted Linen White. Counters: Solid Surfaces Unlimited Wisteria and Caribou Walnut. a very dated kitchen in well renowned building in Midtown Manhattan received a gut renovation, keeping all gas, water and electrical lines as is. Walls were skimmed and repainted with a warm vibrant apricot color, all cabinets custom made, new appliances and beautiful stone flooring.

Take in this beautiful kitchen. It feels spacious and gracious yet it is not a big kitchen. This is all custom cabinetry in a transitional style with a hint to tradition. The cabinets are highlighted with brass accents on the hood and hardware. The hood is just perfect over the range top. Double ovens and refrigerator next to this great coffee hideaway.
