Creating a space to entertain was the top priority in this Mukwonago kitchen remodel. The homeowners wanted seating and counter space for hosting parties and watching sports. By opening the dining room wall, we extended the kitchen area. We added an island and custom designed furniture-style bar cabinet with retractable pocket doors. A new awning window overlooks the backyard and brings in natural light. Many in-cabinet storage features keep this kitchen neat and organized. Bar Cabinet The furniture-style bar cabinet has retractable pocket doors and a drop-in quartz counter. The homeowners can entertain in style, leaving the doors open during parties. Guests can grab a glass of wine or make a cocktail right in the cabinet. Outlet Strips Outlet strips on the island and peninsula keeps the end panels of the island and peninsula clean. The outlet strips also gives them options for plugging in appliances during parties. Modern Farmhouse Design The design of this kitchen is modern farmhouse. The materials, patterns, color and texture define this space. We used shades of golds and grays in the cabinetry, backsplash and hardware. The chevron backsplash and shiplap island adds visual interest. Custom Cabinetry This kitchen features frameless custom cabinets with light rail molding. It’s designed to hide the under cabinet lighting and angled plug molding. Putting the outlets under the cabinets keeps the backsplash uninterrupted. Storage Features Efficient storage and organization was important to these homeowners. We opted for deep drawers to allow for easy access to stacks of dishes and bowls. Under the cooktop, we used custom drawer heights to meet the homeowners’ storage needs. A third drawer was added next to the spice drawer rollout. Narrow pullout cabinets on either side of the cooktop for spices and oils. The pantry rollout by the double oven rotates 90 degrees. Other Updates Staircase – We updated the staircase with a barn wood newel post and matte black balusters Fireplace – We whitewashed the fireplace and added a barn wood mantel and pilasters.

This gorgeous European Poggenpohl Kitchen is the culinary center of this new modern home for a young urban family. The homeowners had an extensive list of objectives for their new kitchen. It needed to accommodate formal and non-formal entertaining of guests and family, intentional storage for a variety of items with specific requirements, and use durable and easy to maintain products while achieving a sleek contemporary look that would be a stage and backdrop for their glorious artwork collection. Solution: A large central island acts as a gathering place within the great room space. The tall cabinetry items such as the ovens and refrigeration are grouped on the wall to keep the rest of the kitchen very light and open. Luxury Poggenpohl cabinetry and Caesarstone countertops were selected for their supreme durability and easy maintenance. Warm European oak flooring is contrasted by the gray textured Poggenpohl cabinetry flattered by full width linear Poggenphol hardware. The tall aluminum toe kick on the island is lit from underneath to give it a light and airy luxurious feeling. To further accent the illuminated toe, the surface to the left of the range top is fully suspended 18” above the finished floor. A large amount of steel and engineering work was needed to achieve the floating of the large Poggenpohl cabinet at the end of the peninsula. This ranch was a complete renovation! We took it down to the studs and redesigned the space for this young family. We opened up the main floor to create a large kitchen with two islands and seating for a crowd and a dining nook that looks out on the beautiful front yard. We created two seating areas, one for TV viewing and one for relaxing in front of the bar area. We added a new mudroom with lots of closed storage cabinets, a pantry with a sliding barn door and a powder room for guests. We raised the ceilings by a foot and added beams for definition of the spaces. We gave the whole home a unified feel using lots of white and grey throughout with pops of orange to keep it fun.

The Myers Touch

Keith met this couple from Hastings at Grand Designs who stumbled upon his talk on Creating Kitchens with Light Space & Laughter. A contemporary look was their wish for the new kitchen extension and had been disappointed with previous kitchen plan/designs suggested by other home & kitchen retailers. We made a few minor alterations to the architecture of their new extension by moving the position of the utility room door, stopped the kitchen island becoming a corridor and included a secret bookcase area which they love. We also created a link window into the lounge area that opened up the space and allowed the outdoor area to flow into the room with the use of reflected glass. The window was positioned opposite the kitchen island with cushioned seating to admire their newly landscaped garden and created a build-down above. The design comprises SieMatic Pure S2 collection in Sterling Grey, Miele appliances with 12mm Dekton worktops and 30mm Spekva Breakfast Bar on one corner of the Island for casual dining or perching.

The cabinets were painted a light gray picking up tones in the quartz counter tops. DOWNLOAD NOW Klimala transitioned the large semi-functional kitchen by widening the opening between the kitchen and breakfast room and relocating an existing powder room. The resulting kitchen has not only a center island, but also a large peninsula for prep work and baking projects. Room was made in the adjoining breakfast room for a large decorative hutch for storage of glassware and linens. A new upholstered banquette provides a spot for daily meals and homework spot for the family’s three kids. The clients love of contemporary design was married with the 1920s era tudor home by keeping the details simple, choosing clean lines for decorative features such as hardware and lighting, but allowing for period appropriate touches such as shaker doors, subway tiles and a farm sink. キッチンは美味しい食事を作るためには欠かせないスペース。毎日使う場所だからこそ、機能性だけではなくおしゃれさにもこだわりたいものです。ここでは、使い勝手の良さやおしゃれさにこだわったキッチンのリフォーム事例と、キッチンリフォームのポイントをご紹介します。

キッチンの改善ポイントを考える

まずは、現在使用しているキッチンを見直してみましょう。調理するスペースが狭い、高さが自分の身長に合っていない、収納スペースが少ないなど、キッチンによってさまざまな改善ポイントが見つかるはずです。こうした改善ポイントをもとに、キッチンのリフォームを検討しましょう。

動線や広さ、レイアウトの見直し

キッチンスペースは人の動きに合わせてレイアウトすることが重要です。動線を意識して、広さやレイアウトを見直しましょう。広さの目安として、キッチン空間を2～3歩で行き来できるのが良いといわれています。狭すぎず広すぎず、キッチンの通路幅は0.9～1.2m程度に収めると良いでしょう。また、冷蔵庫とシンク、コンロを結ぶ三角形の動線（ワークトライアングル）が正三角形に近いほど、作業効率が良いとされています。3辺の合計が3.6～6.6mに収まるように配置すると、効率良く動ける程よい広さとなるでしょう。次にキッチンデザインとレイアウトを特徴別に確認してみましょう。1人で料理をするのか複数人で料理をするのかなど、さまざまなシーンで使い勝手の良いレイアウトを検討してみてください。現在では以下5つのレイアウトが一般的です。

Ⅰ型キッチン
Ⅰ型キッチンは最も一般的なレイアウトで、シンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫が横一線に並んだタイプのキッチンです。最近では、対面カウンターを付けて背面に収納スペースと冷蔵庫を置くなど、Ⅱ型やアイランド型に似たタイプのレイアウトも人気です。
Ⅱ型キッチン
Ⅱ型キッチンはシンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫を2カ所に分け、平行に配置することで調理スペースを広げるレイアウトです。調理の際の動線が短くなるというメリットがあります。
L型キッチン
L型キッチンは、シンク、調理台、コンロがL字型に配置されたレイアウトです。ワークトライアングルを作りやすく、動線をコンパクトに抑えることができます。
アイランドキッチン
アイランドキッチンは独立型キッチンとも呼ばれ、シンク、調理台などを壁面から独立させて設置するレイアウトです。調理台を囲むように作業ができるため、家族や友人など複数で楽しみながらキッチンを共有できます。ホームパーティーや料理教室をする際にも便利でしょう。
ペニンシュラキッチン
ペニンシュラは英語で「半島」を意味します。キッチンの左右どちらかが壁に接しているレイアウトを指します。調理スペースがオープンになっているため、リビングやダイニングにいる方とコミュニケーションを取りながら調理できるというメリットがあります。

ビルトイン機器の選択

キッチンタイプのレイアウト見直しと同時に、ビルトイン機器も検討されてみてはいかがでしょうか。ビルトイン機器とは、建物や家具、設備などの中に組み込んで利用する機器を指します。システムキッチンには、ビルトインコンロ、レンジフード、オーブンレンジ、食器洗浄乾燥機を組み込むことが可能です。ビルトインであればスタイリッシュにキッチンに溶け込み、インテリアの邪魔にもなりません。新築やリフォームの際に取り入れることをおすすめします。

ビルトインコンロ
ビルトインコンロには、それぞれ火力の異なるバーナーを組み合わせた3つ口タイプが一般的です。天板素材はガラストップが主流となっていますが、他にガラスコート、フッ素コート、ホーロー、アルミ、ステンレスなどがあります。使い勝手やデザイン、価格などを考慮して選択しましょう。
食器洗浄乾燥機
食器洗浄乾燥機 (食洗機) は手洗いよりも少ない水量できれいに食器を洗浄することができるため、新築やキッチンのリフォーム時には食洗機の導入をおすすめします。国内製のビルトイン食洗機の場合は引き出し式になっているタイプが多いのに対し、海外製のビルトイン食洗機は前開き式になっているものが一般的です。国内製・海外製それぞれで、設置業者や設置可能なシステムキッチンが異なる場合があるため注意しましょう。

収納スペースのアイデア

いかにデッドスペースを活かすかがキッチン収納のコツです。％Topicの収納は限られているため、多くの食器や調理器具、調味料などを片付けるための工夫が必要です。ビルトイン機器も限られたスペースできれいに収納する工夫のひとつといえるでしょう。システムキッチンの収納スペース以外のキッチン収納スペースとしては、床下収納が代表的です。床下の他に、壁面収納なども人気です。壁面収納の場合、食器や調理器具だけでなくキッチン家電までも収納し、スタイリッシュで生活感の出ないキッチンを演出することもできるでしょう。
