VISION AND NEEDS: Our client came to us with a vision for their dream house for their growing family with three young children. This was their second attempt at getting the right design. The first time around, after working with an out-of-state online architect, they could not achieve the level of quality they wanted. McHugh delivered a home with higher quality design. MCHUGH SOLUTION: The Shingle/Dutch Colonial Design was our client's dream home style. Their priorities were to have a home office for both parents. Ample living space for kids and friends, along with outdoor space and a pool. Double sink bathroom for the kids and a master bedroom with bath for the parents. Despite being close a flood zone, clients could have a fully finished basement with 9ft ceilings and a full attic. Because of the higher water table, the first floor was considerably above grade. To soften the ascent of the front walkway, we designed planters around the stairs, leading up to the porch.

In this new vacation home in Orleans, MA, the classic Cape Cod look is achieved by using the mix of blues and whites. This spacious kitchen features Fieldstone cabinetry in Aegean Mist and a classic apron front sink with Kohler faucet. Shaker kitchen cabinets painted in Farrow & Ball Hague blue with antique brass knobs, pulls and catches. The worktop is Arabescato Corcia Marble. A wall of tall cabinets feature a double larder, double integrated oven and integrated fridge/freezer. A shaker double ceramic sink with polished nickel mixer tap and a Quooker boiling water tap sit in the perimeter run of cabinets with a Bert & May Majadas tile splash back topped off with a floating oak shelf. An induction hob sits on the island with three hanging pendant lights. Two moulded dark blue bar stools provide seating at the overhang worktop breakfast bar. The flooring is dark oak parquet. Mudrooms can have style, too! The mudroom may be one of the most used spaces in your home, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring. A stylish, practical mudroom can keep your house in order and still blend with the rest of your home. This homeowner's existing mudroom was not utilizing the area to its fullest. The open shelves and bench seat were constantly cluttered and unorganized. The garage had a large underutilized area, which allowed us to expand the mudroom and create a large walk in closet that now stores all the day to day clutter, and keeps it out of sight behind these custom elegant barn doors. The mudroom now serves as a beautiful and stylish entrance from the garage, yet remains functional and durable with heated tile floors, wainscoting, coat hooks, and lots of shelving and storage in the closet. Directly outside of the mudroom was a small hall closet that did not get used much. We turned the space into a coffee bar area with a lot of style! Custom dusty blue cabinets add some extra kitchen storage, and mirrored wall cabinets add some function for quick touch ups while heading out the door.

A hip young family moving from Boston tackled an enormous makeover of an antique colonial revival home in downtown Larchmont. The kitchen area was quite spacious but benefitted from a small bump out for a banquette and additional windows. Navy blue island and tall cabinetry matched to Benjamin Moore’s Van Deusen blue is balanced by crisp white (Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace) cabinetry on the perimeter. The mid-century inspired suspended fireplace adds warmth and style to the kitchen. A tile covered range hood blends the ventilation into the walls. Brushed brass hardware by Lewis Dolan in a contemporary T-bar shape offer clean lines in a warm metallic tone. White Marble countertops on the perimeter are balanced by white quartz composite on the island. Kitchen design and custom cabinetry by Studio Dearborn. Countertops by Rye Marble.
