The Cherry Road project is a humble yet striking example of how small changes can have a big impact. A meaningful project as the final room to be renovated in this house, thus our completion aligned with the family’s move-in. The kitchen posed a number of problems the design worked to remedy. Such as an existing window oriented the room towards a neighboring driveway. The initial design move sought to reorganize the space internally, focusing the view from the sink back through the house to the pool and courtyard beyond. This simple repositioning allowed the range to center on the opposite wall, flanked by two windows that reduce direct views to the driveway while increasing the natural light of the space. Opposite that opening to the dining room, we created a new custom hutch that has the upper doors bypass doors incorporate an antique mirror, then led they magnified the light and view opposite side of the room. The ceilings we were confined to eight foot four, so we wanted to create as much verticality as possible. All the cabinetry was designed to go to the ceiling, incorporating a simple coat mold at the ceiling. The west wall of the kitchen is primarily floor-to-ceiling storage behind paneled doors. So the refrigeration and freezers are fully integrated. The island has a custom steel base with hammered legs, with a natural wax finish on it. The top is soapstone and incorporates an integral drain board in the kitchen sink. We did custom bar stools with steel bases and upholstered seats. At the range, we incorporated stainless steel countertops to integrate with the range itself, to make that more seamless flow. The edge detail is historic from the 1930s. There is a concealed sort of office for the homeowner behind custom, bi-folding panel doors. So it can be closed and totally concealed, or opened up and engaged with the kitchen. In the office area, which was a former pantry, we repurposed a granite marble top that was on the former island. Then the walls have a grass cloth wall covering, which is pinnable, so the homeowner can display photographs, calendars, and schedules.

Nulla Vale is a small dwelling and shed located on a large former grazing site. The structure anticipates a more permanent home to be built at some stage in the future. Early settler homes and rural shed types are referenced in the design. The Shed and House are identical in their overall dimensions and from a distance, their silhouette is the familiar gable ended form commonly associated with farming sheds. Up close, however, the two structures are clearly defined as shed and house through the material, void, and volume. The shed was custom designed by us directly with a shed fabrication company using their systems to create a shed that is part storage part entryways. Clad entirely in heritage grade corrugated galvanized iron with a roof oriented and pitched to maximize solar exposure through the seasons. The House is constructed from salvaged bricks and corrugated iron in addition to rough sawn timber and new galvanized roofing on pre-engineered timber trusses that are left exposed both inside and out. Materials were selected to meet the clients’ brief that house fit within the cognitive idea of an ‘old shed’. Internally the finishes are the same as outside, no plasterboard and no paint. LED lighting strips concealed on top of the rafters reflect light off the foil-backed insulation. The house provides the means to eat, sleep and wash in a space that is part of the experience of being on the site and not removed from it.

This kitchen was designed with modern and industrial in mind. It was crucial that we optimised the space by suggesting that high wall hung cabinets were fitted. The black worktop purposely provides a great contrast and compliments the matt black base units. The oak back-splash feature is beautifully echoed on the stairs. This kitchen would not have been complete had we not suggested the mood lighting under our lighting design package and this image really demonstrates that very exercise.

Duplex Y is located in a multi apartment building, typical to the Carmel mountain neighborhoods. The building has several entrances due to the slope it sits on. Duplex Y has its own separate entrance and a beautiful view towards Haifa bay and the Golan Heights that can be seen on a clear weather day. The client - a computer high-tech couple, with their two small daughters asked us for a simple and functional design that could remind them of their frequent visits to central and northern Europe. Their request has been accepted. Our planning approach was simple indeed, maybe even simple in a radical way: We followed the principle of clean and ultra minimal spaces, that serve their direct mission only. Complicated geometry of the rooms has been simplified by implementing built-in wood furniture into numerous niches. The most 'complicated' room (due to its broken geometry, narrow proportions and sloped ceiling) has been turned into a kid's room shaped as a clean 'wood box' for fun, games and 'edutainment'. The storage room has been refurbished to maximize it's purpose by creating enough space to store 90% of the entire family's demand. We've tried to avoid unnecessary decoration. 97% of the design has its functional use in addition to its atmospheric qualities. Cette réalisation met en valeur le souci du détail propre à Mon Conseil Habitation. L’agencement des armoires de cuisine a été pensé au millimètre près tandis que la rénovation des boiseries témoigne du savoir-faire de nos artisans. Cet appartement haussmannien a été intégralement repensé afin de rendre l’espace plus fonctionnel.

Настроение этой небольшой квартире (52 кв. м) задает история здания, в котором она расположена. Городская усадьба в центре Киева, на улице Пушкинской, была построена в 1898 году по проекту Андрея-Фердинанда Краусса — любимого зодчего столичной знати конца XIX — начала XX веков. Среди других его работ — неоготический «Замок Ричарда Львиное Сердце» на Андреевском спуске, Бессарабский квартал, дома на Рейтарской, Большой Васильковской и других улицах. Владелица квартиры издает книги по архитектуре и урбанистике, интересуется дизайном. Подыскивая жилье, она в первую очередь обращала внимание на дома, ставшие важной частью архитектурной истории Киева. В подъезде здания на Пушкинской — широкая парадная лестница с элегантными перилами, а фасад служит ярким примером стиля Краусса. Среди основных пожеланий хозяйки квартиры дизайнеру Юрию Зименко — интерьер должен быть созвучен стилистике здания, в то же время оставаться современным, легкими функциональным. Важно было продумать планировку так, чтобы максимально сохранить и подчеркнуть основные достоинства квартиры, в том числе четырехметровые потолки. Это учли в инженерных решениях и отразили в декоре: тяжелые полотна бархатных штор от пола до потолка и круглое зеркало по центру стены в гостиной акцентируют на вертикали пространства. Об истории здания напоминают также широкие массивные молдинги, повторяющие черты фасада, и лепнина на потолке в гостиной, которую удалось сохранить в оригинальном виде. Среди ретроэлементов, тактично инсталлированных в современный интерьер, — темная ажурная сетка на дверцах кухонных шкафчиков, узорчатая напольная плитка, алюминиевые бра и зеркало в резной раме в ванной. Центральным элементом гостиной стала редкая литография лимитированной серии одной из самых известных работ французского художника Жоржа Брака «Трубка, рюмка, игральная кисточка и газета» 1963 года. В спокойной нейтральной гамме интерьера настроение создают яркие вспышки цвета — глубокого зеленого, электрического синего, голубого и кораллового. В изначальной планировке было сделано одно глобальное изменение: зону кухни со всеми коммуникациями перенесли в зону гостиной. В результате получилось функциональное жилое пространство с местом для сна и гостиной со столовой. Но в итоге нам удалось встроить все коммуникации в зону над дверным проемом спальни». — комментирует Юрий Зименко.
