Our San Francisco studio designed this bright, airy, Victorian kitchen with stunning countertops, elegant built-ins, and plenty of open shelving. The dark-toned wood flooring beautifully complements the white themes in the minimalist kitchen, creating a classic appeal. Cabinetry – Kemper Echo Cabinetry Hardware- Jeffrey Alexander stainless bar pulls Countertops- Cambria Quartz Torquay Sinks and Faucets- Blanco Anthracite undermount Silgranite sink. Moen Faucet Nickel Appliances- Samsung French door refrigerator in stainless, Samsung slide in gas range, Whirlpool wall Oven/ Microwave combination, Bosch 500 series dishwasher, and Broan Elite series pro range hood. Flooring- prefinished 3/4 oak hardwood. Backsplash- Natural stone subway tile. -Inspiration and Design Challenges The Original kitchen in this 1970’s raised ranch was bright an open yet left the dining room closed off from the home and wasn’t large enough for the island that Joe and his wife would have liked. Joe and Tim from THI Co. had developed a plan relocate the kitchen to one exterior wall and allow for an island that would function for both seating and entertaining. The challenge we faced was the original windows of the kitchen had to completely go. Relying solely on the open floor plan for natural light, Tim opened up the Dining room wall, removed the dividing half wall to the family room and widened doorways to the great room leading from the kitchen and dining room. The removal of the soffits and consistent wood flooring help tie together the adjacent rooms. The plan was for simple clean lines with subtle detail brought out in the trim on the cabinetry and custom 10ft island back panel. Finding a set of appliances was the next task. The kitchen was designed with the intention of being used. The Whirlpool convection wall ovens give the kitchen 3 possible functioning ovens with along with the Samsung 5 burner range. The end result is a simple elegant design that has all the functionality of galley kitchen yet the feel of an open kitchen with twice the square footage.

When we started to demo this kitchen, we discovered structural and plumbing elements that would need to be creatively worked into the design. The soffit that contains plumbing from the upstairs bathroom is wrapped in wood panelling to look like it is part of the cabinetry. It flows nicely into the fridge-pantry-freezer column that is also wrapped in wood panels.

New Shaker Style doors & drawer fronts with soft-close concealed hinges & soft-close drawer guides. Top Knobs Devon Collection cabinet hardware in matte black finish, New oven/microwave cabinet built to lower the unit to accessible height with new KitchenAid oven/microwave. New vent-a-hood cabinet so as to increase vent-a-hood to 30" height! New KitchenAid 36" commercial gas cooktop. Painted the cabinets with Sherwin-Williams Pro-classic oil based paint in color of Alabaster with satin finish. Installed new Marazzi Castellina Linear Hex White & Gray Stone Mosaic tile wiht Bostik Vivid grout in the color of Shadow.

This family contacted me to remodel their kitchen and family room after moving into their home in The Colonies in Upland, CA. I replaced the old white 4×4 tile counters with Cambria quartz on the base cabinets and white persa granite on the oversized island. I had the existing cabinets refaced in a two-tone color scheme and added new hardware in both bronze and silver. The back splash is marble in an offset subway pattern with a frame of 1×1’s above the cook top. A custom hood was made to top the new Wolf cook top. New pendant lighting above the island was added to create some ambiance and make the island feel less massive. Upgraded stainless steel appliances add some sparkle to the space. Custom swivel barstools add counter top seating. I topped things off with some beautiful 8″ crown molding to make the space feel more complete. In the family room and dining nook areas, I wanted to provide a lot of seating for friends and family. I achieved this by having a large custom sectional and ottoman made, installing a dining table that seats 6 and a sofa table that doubles as extra seating behind the sectional. I wanted to create some cohesiveness between this area and the kitchen so I had custom drapes made in the same fabric as the barstools, pillows, sofa table ottomans and table runner. A large fiddle leaf fig tree and some other greenery and accessories were added to warm up the space.

Turning the clock back to revive the industrial time the home was built was the inspiration in kitchen remodel. Metal Hood and exposed plumbers pipe complement the Vintage 48' range. Marble tile backslash ties the blue grey painted cabinetry to the mat black metals and white quartz counter tops.
