Balancing modern architectural elements with traditional Edwardian features was a key component of the complete renovation of this San Francisco residence. All new finishes were selected to brighten and enliven the spaces, and the home was filled with a mix of furnishings that convey a modern twist on traditional elements. This gorgeous European Poggenpohl Kitchen is the culinary center of this new modern home for a young urban family. The homeowners had an extensive list of objectives for their new kitchen. It needed to accommodate formal and non-formal entertaining of guests and family, intentional storage for a variety of items with specific requirements, and use durable and easy to maintain products while achieving a sleek contemporary look that would be a stage and backdrop for their glorious artwork collection. Solution: A large central island acts as a gathering place within the great room space. The tall cabinetry items such as the ovens and refrigeration are grouped on the wall to keep the rest of the kitchen very light and open. Luxury Poggenpohl cabinetry and Caesarstone countertops were selected for their supreme durability and easy maintenance. Warm European oak flooring is contrasted by the gray textured Poggenpohl cabinetry flattered by full width linear Poggenphol hardware. The tall aluminum toe kick on the island is lit from underneath to give it a light and airy luxurious feeling. To further accent the illuminated toe, the surface to the left of the range top is fully suspended 18” above the finished floor. A large amount of steel and engineering work was needed to achieve the floating of the large Poggenpohl cabinet at the end of the peninsula. The prep sink is a under-mount trough sink in stainless by Kohler The prep sink faucet is a Hirise bar faucet by Kohler in brushed stainless. The pot filler next to the range is a Hirise deck mount by Kohler in brushed stainless. The cabinet hardware are all Bowman knobs and pulls by Rejuvenation. The floor tile is Pebble Beach and Halila in a Versailles pattern by Carmel Stone Imports. The kitchen sink is a Austin single bowl farmer sink in smooth copper with an antique finish by Barclay. The cabinets are walnut flat-panel done by palmer woodworks. The kitchen faucet is a Chesterfield bridge faucet with a side spray in english bronze. The smaller faucet next to the kitchen sink is a Chesterfield hot water dispenser in english bronze by Newport Brass All the faucets were supplied by Dahl Plumbing (a great company) https://dahlplumbing.com/

The leather fronted raised bar at the curved kitchen cabinetry also features a solid steel toe kick and foot rail. Walnut counters are featured at the opposite side of the raised bar.

A newly retired couple had purchased their 1989 home because it offered everything they needed on one level. He loved that the house was right on the Mississippi River with access for docking a boat. She loved that there was two bedrooms on the Main Level, so when the grandkids came to stay, they had their own room. The dark, traditional style kitchen with wallpaper and coffered ceiling felt closed off from the adjacent Dining Room and Family Room. Although the island was large, there was no place for seating. We removed the peninsula and reconfigured the kitchen to create a more functional layout that includes 9-feet of 18-inch deep pantry cabinets The new island has seating for four and is orientated to the window that overlooks the back yard and river. Flat-paneled cabinets in a combination of horizontal wood and semi-gloss white paint add to the modern, updated look. A large format tile (24” x 24”) runs throughout the kitchen and into the adjacent rooms for a continuous, monolithic look.
