Beautiful kitchen with elements of both "Transitional" & "Modern Farmhouse" design. White shaker kitchen cabinets with contrasting espresso island set the tone of the overall design. Add the marble backsplash from base to ceiling along the whole back wall, the top row of glass doors on the top and the farmhouse sink and we are leaning toward "Farmhouse." The light wood engineered floors, stainless steel appliances and brass hardware are all "Transitional" design elements. Again, the end result is a great combination of both genres. Enjoy!

This kitchen started life as a wide-open and airy space with somewhat drab cabinets. Its bones were great, some of the details were interesting – the pendant lights, the high vaulted ceiling and the soffit bridges, but the blonde oak cabinets, white tile counters, and vinyl flooring dragged the space back into the realm of the mundane. When the homeowners came to San Luis Kitchen they were seeking to add a bold richness to their home. They fell in love with our cherry cabinets in a deep red finish called ‘Fireside Heirloom Black’ which has black glaze and fleck distressing to bring out the details of the style. Our designers helped them to organize the kitchen – changing the cook-top to a range and sliding it to the left for symmetry and increased work space (eliminating the combo wall oven/microwave), adding an arched valance over the window to tie the halves of the kitchen together, and reconfiguring the refrigerator and microwave thus gaining 24” of counter in the corner. San Luis Kitchen explored several island layouts with the homeowners – we wanted to add a prep sink, a double trash cabinet, more storage, display cabinetry for glassware and crystal, and a seating/eating bar. We added buffet cabinets to the bay window, replaced the white appliances with stainless, and added a copper hood and apron sink for rich detailing. This warm and inviting kitchen is fitted with custom Shaker-style cabinets designed by Studioteka from the initial concepts down to shop drawings. Gray Porcelanosa floor tile complements the herringbone-patterned backsplash, while the bright white cabinets reflect the natural light which enters the space from two unobstructed windows. Brass-accented pulls, elegant stone countertops, and custom floor-to-ceiling built-ins by the breakfast nook bring this beautiful kitchen to life.

The client came to us looking for a kitchen remodel for her Redwood City home. She donned a wild, colorful skirt and a charming personality—and she was looking to echo her style in her home. We were smitten with the client who travels the world with her partner collecting odd and wonderful items: goose feet salt-and-pepper stoneware, strange furniture, off-the-wall lamp fixtures, and a cow portrait from Istanbul aptly titled Miss Cow. To match and balance their collection and personalities, we embraced the eclectic in subtle but significant ways. First, we brought the outside in. We removed a few walls to open the kitchen into the dining and living space and to the large, floor-to-ceiling windows that lined the west side of the home. These look over a large acre of land that’s carefully kept and worked to grow an abundance of vegetables, and they introduced a vibrant scene to the kitchen. We chose soft, light colors for the kitchen cabinets and backspace with simple, homey stainless steel and glass wall cabinets. This allowed the clients’ colorful accessories and fresh goods to shine. Then, as a statement piece, we used a faux marble backsplash and countertop—understated to marry well with the vibrant home, but iconic. We contrasted this with a Belgian-blue Neolith countertop on the island where the goose feet stoneware would live. As the final touch, we brought in Miss Cow, whose bright green background and pink nose added the perfect pop of color and demanded attention. Finally, we vetted a contractor to work on the updates—someone both we and the client could trust.
