A dynamic and multifaceted entertaining area, this kitchen is the center for family gatherings and its open floor plan is conducive to entertaining. The kitchen was designed to accomodate two cooks, and the small island is the perfect place for food preparation while family and guests interact with the host. The informal dining area was enlarged to create a functional eating area, and the space now incorporates a sliding French door that provides easy access to the new rear deck. Skylights that change color on demand to diminish strong, unwanted sunlight were also incorporated in the revamped dining area. A peninsula area located off of the main kitchen and dining room creates a great space for additional entertaining and storage. Character cherry cabinetry, tiger wood hardwood flooring, and dry stack running bond slate backsplash make bold statements within the space. The island top is a 3" thick Brazilian cherry end grain top, and the brushed black ash granite countertops elsewhere in the kitchen create a beautiful contrast against the cabinetry. A buffet area was incorporated into the adjoining family room to create a flow from space to space and to provide additional storage and a dry bar. Here the character cherry was maintained in the center part of the cabinetry and is flanked by a knotty maple to add more visual interest. The center backsplash is an onyx slate set in a basketweave pattern which is juxtaposed by cherry bead board on either side. The use of a variety of natural materials lends itself to the rustic style, while the cabinetry style, decorative light fixtures, and open layout provide the space with a contemporary twist. Here bold statements blend with subtle details to create a warm, welcoming, and eclectic space.

Bay Area Custom Cabinetry: wine bar sideboard in family room connects to galley kitchen. This custom cabinetry built-in has two wind refrigerators installed side-by-side, one having a hinged door on the right side and the other on the left. The countertop is made of seafoam green granite and the backsplash is natural slate. These custom cabinets were made in our own award-winning artisanal cabinet studio. In this kitchen, Medallion Gold Full Overlay Maple cabinets in the door style Madison Raised Panel with Harvest Bronze with Ebony Glaze and Highlights finish. The Wine bar furniture piece is Medallion Brookhill Raised Panel with White Chocolate Classic Paint finish with Mocha Highlights. The countertop is Cambria Bradshaw Quartz in 3cm with ledge edge and 4” backsplash on coffee bar. The backsplash is Honed Durango 4 x 4, 3 x 6 Harlequin Glass Mosaic 1 x 1 accent tile, Slate Radiance color: Cactus. Pewter 2 x 2 Pinnalce Dots; 1 x 1 Pinnacle Buttons and brushed nickel soho pencil border. Seagull Stone Street in Brushed Nickel pendant lights. Exciting without being at all overwrought or bombastic.” This shingle-style cottage in a small coastal village provides its owners a cherished spot on Maine’s rocky coastline. This home adapts to its immediate surroundings and responds to views, while keeping solar orientation in mind. Sited one block east of a home the owners had summered in for years, the new house conveys a commanding 180-degree view of the ocean and surrounding natural beauty, while providing the sense that the home had always been there. Marvin Ultimate Double Hung Windows stayed in line with the traditional character of the home, while also complementing the custom French doors in the rear. The specification of Marvin Window products provided confidence in the prevalent use of traditional double-hung windows on this highly exposed site. The ultimate clad double-hung windows were a perfect fit for the shingle-style character of the home. Marvin also built custom French doors that were a great fit with adjacent double-hung units. Ulrich Designer: Aparna Vijayan Photography by Peter Rymwid This kitchen, created for an Englewood family's newly constructed tudor style home, was inspired by the homeowners' numerous family vacations to the Colorado Rockies. They wanted their very own "Rockies style chalet". Designer Aparna Vijayan describes it as "rustic-formal". There are innumerable design features: custom color cabinets, a custom antique copper and bronze hood, slate countertops in the perimeter and island, a peruvian walnut wood countertop in the eating area of the island, exposed beams in the high ceiling, brick work in ceiling, and reclaimed wood flooring, to name some of them. The homeowners also wanted to have, and Aparna delivered, tons of state of the art appliances and large areas for gathering and entertaining. ...Wonder if there are skis behind the door of that armoire - oh, just the fridge and freezer! Still, a chance for snow!

The cabinets are in a horizontal bamboo & the island is black. Countertop's are concrete, floors are cork and the hood & back splash is slate. I love the wall treatments & lighting to make this space even more unique!
