The lost counter top space from the peninsula was made up for by removing the pantry and double oven and replacing them with additional cabinets, drawers, and counters, which extended around to the fridge. Cabinetry was also built around the fridge for a modern, built-in look, and the cabinets above the fridge were extended – proving great storage space for large pots and pans, cookie sheets and crock pots! The kitchen also received beautiful Granite counter tops in Black Pearl, along with new custom cabinets and hardware, fresh paint, wood floors, and a stylish tile backsplash. You’ll also notice that the upper cabinets were installed at a 45 degree angle in the corners, providing better use than the original design with cabinets at a 90 degree angle. Designer Jodi Tramontin, CMKBD decided to create a "Contemporary Craftsman" inspired kitchen which would flow with the rest of the home's architecture, design and materials. In order to create the perfect Contemporary Craftsman-inspired kitchen, she selected Dura Supreme's popular Lynden door style. The clean, simple lines on the doors rails and stiles along with the beautiful bevel detailing are the perfect complement to the Contemporary Craftsman-inspired kitchen that she wanted to create. After the door style was decided on, it was time to create the color palette. When creating a color palette for a particular space, start by determining what items that will be staying in the room that you’ll need to coordinate with. For example, for Jodi’s new kitchen she needed to work with the existing paint, millwork (casings, trim, interior doors), and hardwood floor colors. “One of the most common questions I get as a designer is "Do my cabinets have to match the rest of the woodwork within the home?" My answer to that question is "No - absolutely not". I love mixing different wood tones within any given space to create a unique and comfortable look.” – Jodi Tramontin, CMKBD After looking at many different options for the cabinet finishes, Jodi decided on Dura Supreme's “Hazelnut stain” on Cherry for the perimeter cabinetry and Dura Supreme’s “Latte” paint on Maple/Paintable for the island. Both of these finishes coordinate beautifully with the existing paint, millwork, and hardwood. Jodi also opted to go with a Low Sheen level on the stained finishes. Dura Supreme's standard sheen level on our stains is a semi-gloss finish while the low sheen is considered a satin finish. The low sheen option is just as strong and durable as our standard sheen. Every time you look at this remarkable kitchen you will find a new feature tucked away in this entertainer's dream kitchen. The statement piece is the 48" GE Monogram professional dual fuel range with complementary 54" stainless steel hood by Vent-a-Hood. On the perimeter you will find the Lakeview door by Plain & Fancy cabinetry in maple wood. It is an inset door that we had made with an inner bead. The finish is called Morning Shadow, which is paint/glaze combination with a light brushstroke. Oil rubbed bronze exposed finial hinges really work well keeping with the craftsman theme. The stacked upper cabinets have been fitted with vertical lifting mechanisms and oil rubbed bronze latch hardware. On the left we created a grand breakfast bar complete with 60" x 60" piano hinged doors that open completely, exposing shelving and appliances. Down below you will find a Scotsman nugget ice maker and U-Line 15" wine storage unit. The island is a custom door, inset with an inner bead. The customer opted for knotty alder wood with a low sheen cocoa stain. The farmhouse sink is the Kohler Strive 36" with Smart Divide. We created a drop down table on the rear of the island using a custom paint to match the beams above. This painted finish was then distressed with heavy brush mark crackling by Plain & Fancy.
