Our clients hired us to completely renovate and furnish their PEI home — and the results were transformative. Inspired by their natural views and love of entertaining, each space in this PEI home is distinctly original yet part of the collective whole. We used color, patterns, and texture to invite personality into every room: the fish scale tile backsplash mosaic in the kitchen, the custom lighting installation in the dining room, the unique wallpapers in the pantry, powder room and mudroom, and the gorgeous natural stone surfaces in the primary bathroom and family room. We also hand-designed several features in every room, from custom furnishings to storage benches and shelving to unique honeycomb-shaped bar shelves in the basement lounge. The result is a home designed for relaxing, gathering, and enjoying the simple life as a couple.

Like many, this family spends a lot time in the back half of their home. Built in 1988, the kitchen and family room were cramped and dimly lit. With this remodel, they wanted a larger space to provide both an updated gourmet kitchen and a family room suitable for entertaining. While unsure of what new products and current styles to incorporate, these empty-nesters definitely had some notions of what they didn’t like although they didn’t always agree. Retirement home designed for extended family! I loved this couple! They decided to build their retirement dream home before retirement so that they could enjoy entertaining their grown children and their newly started families. A bar area with 2 beer taps, space for air hockey, a large balcony, a first floor kitchen with a large island opening to a fabulous pool and the ocean are just a few things designed with the kids in mind. The color palette is casual beach with pops of aqua and turquoise that add to the relaxed feel of the home.

Design: Mark Lind Project Management: Jon Strain Photography: Paul Finkel, 2012 The owners of this 1980’s era home wanted to improve the flow from the kitchen to the adjacent living and dining rooms and update the finishes in a more modern aesthetic. A new bay was added to the garage and the original space was converted into a new utility room, guest bath, and pantry. The kitchen was completely gutted and with the living room wall removed, doubled in size. The adjacent breakfast area was pushed farther into the rear yard. The finishes are characterized by compositions of overlapping forms and a mix of materials, including sparkling black granite countertops immediately adjacent to cast concrete bars. Rich mesquite floors that run throughout much of the first floor unify this large and eclectic project. A high degree of detail went into planning for the rough-in stage to allow for lights in the new paired structural steel beams that separate the kitchen from the living room and for the dual custom concrete bars at the kitchen and dining areas. The result of this renovation is a spacious, contemporary kitchen that fits the lifestyle of this active family. The innovative mix of forms and finishes were accomplished with a high degree of craftsmanship and careful detailing.

For three years this Westlake Village couple lived in a house that didn't quite fit their needs. With frequent houseguests staying for weeks at a time, the family needed more space, particularly in the cramped kitchen. So began their search for a new home. Though the couple viewed several residences, they realized nothing compared to the space and location of the house they already owned. The family knew JRP by reputation from friends who were JRP clients. After consulting with our team, the couple agreed a whole-home renovation was the way to the dream home they had been searching for. Inspired by top architectural magazines, the couple had a clear vision of how their home should look and feel: a clean, open, modern space with a mix of details that played to the family's lively spirit. The highlight of this new, open floorplan home is the gorgeous kitchen perfect for hosting. The unified palette is soft and beautiful.
