A modern, bright and white galley kitchen with large wooden island and a tile backsplash wall. The pantry and sink are to the side, making the kitchen a place for the family to spend. A new interpretation of utilitarian farm structures. This mountain modern home sits in the foothills of North Carolina and brings a distinctly modern element to a rural working farm. It got its name because it was built to structurally support a series of hammocks that can be hung when the homeowners family comes for extended stays biannually. This contemporary compact kitchen not only looks great, but functions really well in the small u-shaped space. Incorporating two of the clients’ existing appliances, this grey, green and bamboo kitchen is a beautiful and cohesive cooking space. The previous kitchen was galley style space, with units down each side of the room. We designed the new kitchen to make maximise the space along the end wall under the window. We built shallow cabinets to provide extra storage and worktop space along that wall. This resulted in connecting the two cabinet runs on each side of the room, aiding the flow throughout. Although the grey kitchen and bamboo worktop create a soft colour palette, the addition of the green really lifts the space. The glass splashbacks on both walls are united by the green of the houseplants, adding a pop of colour and tying all the elements of the kitchen together.

This no-fuss kitchen is designed for simplicity, while utilizing user-friendly and worry-free materials. The abundance of natural light adds to the room’s relaxed atmosphere; making it an ideal gathering place to entertain family and friends. Seating at the custom-designed island brings visitors close to the action, but out of the kitchen’s work-space. The renovated layout places the refrigerator and wall-oven on the left wall, with the built-in cabinets; and clears the Silestone island-surface for a spacious prep area. The vegetable sink is positioned opposite the refrigerator for optimum access. Circulation, from the much-used exterior door, allows one to slide along the edge of the room, without interfering with the cook. The natural palette includes a walnut countertop; off-white upper and base cabinets; an ‘L’ shaped counter configuration; quarter sawn white oak island cabinets with a driftwood finish and charcoal glaze; and Silestone quartz surface for the island countertop. Midcentury modern home on Lake Sammamish. We used mixed materials and styles to add interest to this bright space. A Caesarstone quartz insert protects the reclaimed wood counter top and provides a work space for the chef. The crushed granite sink allows for easy clean-up and a scratch proof surface.

This kitchen has been custom designed with the client and the attention to detail is remarkable. The kitchen size has increased substantially by realigning the kitchen area. Windows were blocked in to allow for the extended kitchen. The use of lighting and the blend of warm timber and stone bench tops have provided a warmth to the centre of the home. This kitchen has had a stunning transformation. Features include: Ceaserstone and solid timber bench tops, laminate doors, solid timber intergrated into the stone bench tops, integrated lighting in the shelving and under mount sink.
