We added a cool touch to this rustic mountain kitchen through rugged metals and matte gray countertops. Organic wooden accents stand out against the soft white paneled walls and unique glassware perched on the open display shelves. Plenty of natural light and the open floor plan keeps the kitchen from looking dark or heavy. This double drawer dishwasher by Fisher & Paykel offers energy efficiency and convenience. Each drawer operates separately, and uses just 2 gallons of water on average per load.

This inviting gourmet kitchen designed by Curtis Lumber Co., Inc. is perfect for the entertaining lifestyle of the homeowners who wanted a modern farmhouse kitchen in a new construction build. The look was achieved by mixing in a warmer white finish on the upper cabinets with warmer wood tones for the base cabinets and island. The cabinetry is Merillat Masterpiece, Ganon Full overlay Evercore in Warm White Suede sheen on the upper cabinets and Ganon Full overlay Cherry Barley Suede sheen on the base cabinets and floating shelves. The leg of the island has a beautiful taper to it providing a beautiful architectural detail. Shiplap on the window wall and on the back of the island adds a little extra texture to the space. A microwave drawer in a base cabinet, placed near the refrigerator, creates a separate cooking zone. Tucked in on the outskirts of the kitchen is a beverage refrigerator providing easy access away from cooking areas Ascendra Pulls from Tob Knobs in flat black adorn the cabinetry. This Bowie, MD traditional kitchen design offers a welcoming setting for family life with HomeCrest by MasterBrand Cabinetry at the heart of the design. The Heritage Arch cherry cabinets in a Cinnamon finish bring warmth to the kitchen, complemented by Richelieu hardware. This is offset by Giallo Ornamental granite with a 4" splash along with a DalTile classic Rittenhouse subway tile backsplash in Almond. The cabinetry includes customized storage accessories, like the pull out spice rack. Stainless accents feature through the kitchen, including the chimney hood, Sharp undercounter microwave, two wall ovens, and an Allora USA double bowl sink plus Moen "Brantford" pull out spray faucet. Bruce Gunstock hardwood flooring adds natural charm to the design and pulls together the warm wood color scheme.

The original floor plan of this townhome had the kitchen surrounded with sheetrock walls and no view. Removing the walls and creating an open plan kitchen resulted in an "Awarding Winning" kitchen for my homeowners.

A series of porthole openings are created, starting in the bar area and following through to the dining area, to evoke an open airy feeling that is both functional and metaphoric in reflecting back on the real portholes it mirrors.

Our clients already had a cottage on Torch Lake that they loved to visit. It was a 1960s ranch that worked just fine for their needs. However, the lower level walkout became entirely unusable due to water issues. After purchasing the lot next door, they hired us to design a new cottage. Our first task was to situate the home in the center of the two parcels to maximize the view of the lake while also accommodating a yard area. Our second task was to take particular care to divert any future water issues. We took necessary precautions with design specifications to water proof properly, establish foundation and landscape drain tiles / stones, set the proper elevation of the home per ground water height and direct the water flow around the home from natural grade / drive. Our final task was to make appealing, comfortable, living spaces with future planning at the forefront. An example of this planning is placing a master suite on both the main level and the upper level. The ultimate goal of this home is for it to one day be at least a 3/4 of the year home and designed to be a multi-generational heirloom. - Jacqueline Southby Photography
