This kitchen went from white washed oak with wallpaper to cherry modern and sophisticated. We took out the 2 islands and created one center island with counter seating areas. We replaced all of the cabinets with Waypoint cabinets in a rich cherry finish and topped them with Cambria Ella counter tops. The eye catching iridescent mosaic tile back splash finishes off the transitional look. We tied the open kitchen and living area together with the living room built-ins and a new fireplace surround. The area got new oak hardwood floors in a grey stain. We love how this kitchen and living room came to life with a total makeover! An outdated oak kitchen with panorama views was in desperate need of a remodel for this working family of 5. An inspiration picture with mirrored panels was the take off point for this sophisticated mirror and curved mullion cabinet design. The fridge and freezer are a focal point hidden behind beautiful wood panels and flanked by 5' tall mirrored pantries. Additional storage sets on the counter and acts as the focal point upon entry from the front of the house. New French doors open up where a window once resided, and new windows over the sink reach down to the countertop. A flushmount ceiling hood for the island cooktop disappears into a floating soffit paneled in matching wood. Pendants drip down to anchor the space. A large 66" x 120" island provides ample prep and entertaining space. The bar provides additional entertaining space, which the family does often, hosting up to 100 guests at a time. A cantina door was added at the end of the room, opening up the living and dining space out to the pool deck. Brushed brass faucets, fixtures, and accents add polish and sparkle.

This contemporary, eclectic kitchen remodel includes, a Calacutta Quartz for the countertops from Daltile, the edge detail is square on all countertops and the sink is a slate quartz sink. The backsplash is from Daltile as well, it is called Nickel Blend Fortress Mosaic, the trim is a stainless schluter and the grout used was a pro fusion grout in the color Moonshadow. The owner decided to keep their existing floor it gives the kitchen a warm traditional feel.

First, we decided to move the kitchen from a tiny room at the side of the property into a central area, previously used as a dining room, to create a space better suited to a family of five. We also extended the room to provide more space and to afford panoramic views of the garden. We wanted to develop “zoning” ideas to maximise the practicality of the room for family life and to experiment with a darker, richer palette of materials than the usual light and white, to create a welcoming, warm space. The layout is focussed around a large island, which does not include a sink or hob on its surface. This is the monolithic slab in the space, its simple design serving to amplify the beauty of the material it is made from; we chose an ultra-durable concrete-effect quartz to sweep across its top and down to the floor. The island links the other ‘components’ of the room: a distinct zone for washing up, opposite a cooking area, each fitted into niches created by structural pillars. Close to the dining table is a breakfast and drinks station, with boiling water tap, out of the way of the main working areas of the room. Working with interior designer Clare Pascoe of Pascoe Interiors, we selected clean-lined cabinetry in inky blue and dark wood, creating a rich effect offset by a smoked wood floor and natural oak and blue stools. The stronger colours add character and definition, and accentuate the role of the kitchen as the heart of the home.
