This beautiful transitional kitchen remodel features both natural cherry flat panel cabinetry alongside painted grey cabinets, stainless steel appliances and satin nickel hardware. The overall result is an upscale and airy space that anyone would want to spend time in. The oversize island is a contrast in cool grey which joins the kitchen to the adjacent dining area, tying the two spaces together. Countertops in cherry butcher block as well as fantasy brown granite bring contrast to the space. A custom table which seats up to 8 coordinates with the kitchen island. The sideboard in natural cherry with its Island Stone Himachal White backsplash provides storage and convenience and continues this expansive dining space which can be used for casual gatherings, everyday meals or formal dinners. Finally the rough-hew flooring with it's mixture of rich, deep wood tones alongside lighter shades finish off this exquisite space.

We reconfigured this space and installed a discreet pocket door to provide a link to the utility room. To create a feature to the open plan space we specified a duo tone kitchen, darker units to the perimeter wall and a pale grey for the large island, with a marble effect composite worktop to tie the finishes together.

This clean, modern kitchen is a pleasure to cook in. The whimsical, red cutlery holder is an excellent conversation starter.

The corner site, at the junction of St. Matthews Avenue and Chamberlain Way and delimited by a garden with mature trees, is located in a tranquil and leafy area of Surbiton in Surrey. Located in the north-east cusp of the site, the large two-storey Victorian suburban villa is a large family home combined with business premises, whereby part of the Ground Floor is used as Nursery. The property has been extended by FPA to improve the internal layout and provide additional floor space for a dedicated kitchen and a large Living Room with multifunctional quality. FPA has developed a proposal for a side extension to replace a derelict garage, conceived as a subordinate addition to the host property. It is made up of two separate volumes facing Chamberlain Way: the smaller one accommodates the kitchen and the primary one the large Living Room. The two volumes - rectangular in plan and both with a mono pitch roof - are set back from one another and are rotated so that their roofs slope in opposite directions, allowing the primary space to have the highest ceiling facing the outside. The architectural language adopted draws inspiration from Froebel’s gifts and wood blocs. A would-be architect who pursued education as a profession instead, Friedrich Froebel believed that playing with blocks gives fundamental expression to a child’s soul, with blocks symbolizing the actual building blocks of the universe. Although predominantly screened by existing boundary treatments and mature vegetation, the new brick building initiates a dialogue with the buildings at the opposite end of St. Matthews Avenue that employ similar materials and roof design. The interior is inspired by Scandinavian design and aesthetic. Muted colours, bleached exposed timbers and birch plywood contrast the dark floor and white walls. Gianluca Maver

Nestled within an established west-end enclave, this transformation is both contemporary yet traditional—in keeping with the surrounding neighbourhood's aesthetic. A family home is refreshed with a spacious master suite, large, bright kitchen suitable for both casual gatherings and entertaining, and a sizeable rear addition. The kitchen's crisp, clean palette is the perfect neutral foil for the handmade backsplash, and generous floor-to-ceiling windows provide a vista to the lush green yard and onto the Humber ravine. The rear 2-storey addition is blended seamlessly with the existing home, revealing a new master suite bedroom and sleek ensuite with bold blue tiling. Two additional additional bedrooms were refreshed to update juvenile kids' rooms to more mature finishes and furniture—appropriate for young adults.

Large freestanding island acts a clear demarcation between the kitchen and open plan dining area and provides informal seating, as well as an expanse of worktop surface.
