A full inside-out renovation of our commercial space, featuring our Showroom and Conference Room. The 3,500-square-foot Andrea Schumacher storefront in the Art District on Santa Fe is in a 1924 building. It houses the light-filled, mural-lined Showroom on the main floor and a designers office and library upstairs. We worked with a family of six to create a light-filled “tree house” on two levels entering across bridges from an existing drive, gardens, and walks privately nestled below the accessing street. The owner envisioned a residence that felt open, full of light, and captured connections between family and private spaces vertically and horizontally. The owners wanted egalitarian spaces to encourage peaceful cohabitation between three generations living in the home.

An open house lot is like a blank canvas. When Mathew first visited the wooded lot where this home would ultimately be built, the landscape spoke to him clearly. Standing with the homeowner, it took Mathew only twenty minutes to produce an initial color sketch that captured his vision - a long, circular driveway and a home with many gables set at a picturesque angle that complemented the contours of the lot perfectly. The interior was designed using a modern mix of architectural styles – a dash of craftsman combined with some colonial elements – to create a sophisticated yet truly comfortable home that would never look or feel ostentatious. Features include a bright, open study off the entry. This office space is flanked on two sides by walls of expansive windows and provides a view out to the driveway and the woods beyond. There is also a contemporary, two-story great room with a see-through fireplace. This space is the heart of the home and provides a gracious transition, through two sets of double French doors, to a four-season porch located in the landscape of the rear yard. Bar area is designed with large bookshelf storage for display of favorite are pieces and books. Bar storage is mainly located on wall cabinets with the base composed of two wine coolers. Wall cabinets have puck under cabinet lighting to illuminate the beautiful verde vecchio granite stone slab. Cabinets go to the ceiling and are finished off with a small crown treatment. The utility room was designed by surrounding the stacked washer and dryer and adding a thin, tall cabinet to the side for storage.
