We gave this 1978 home a magnificent modern makeover that the homeowners love! Our designers were able to maintain the great architecture of this home but remove necessary walls, soffits and doors needed to open up the space. In the living room, we opened up the bar by removing soffits and openings, to now seat 6. The original low brick hearth was replaced with a cool floating concrete hearth from floor to ceiling. The wall that once closed off the kitchen was demoed to 42" counter top height, so that it now opens up to the dining room and entry way. The coat closet opening that once opened up into the entry way was moved around the corner to open up in a less conspicuous place. The secondary master suite used to have a small stand up shower and a tiny linen closet but now has a large double shower and a walk in closet, all while maintaining the space and sq. ft.in the bedroom. I relocated the cabinets, pushed back the wall and opened up the space with a glass-panel French door. With the newly-added seating, your girlfriends can soak up the sun and chat while you whip up some appetizers.

The main areas of the home such as the foyer, hall ways, bathrooms, kitchen and dining room were upgraded with new, lighter colored flooring. For these areas, the Apollo 12 x 24 tile in the color Beige from Happy Floors was selected to revive the entire condo and add a touch of modern design. The kitchen was masked with dark cabinets and granite countertops, which left it feeling dated and understated. Dawn and Brittany worked to give the kitchen a mini makeover with new countertops, backsplash and hardware. The granite countertops were replaced with quartz from Cambria in the style Berwyn™ and the Revere Multi Linear Glass backsplash from Tesoro in the color Ash was added.

Designing a new staircase to connect all three levels freed up space for this kitchen. Before, my client had to squeeze through a narrow opening in the corner of the kitchen to access an equally narrow stair to the basement. In the process of evaluating the space we discovered there was no foundation under the kitchen walls! Noticing that the entry to their home was little used--everyone came right in to the kitchen--gave me the idea that we could connect the kitchen to the entry and convert it into a pantry! The client also asked us not to get a built-in refrigerator. We moved it away from the rest of the furniture so it could be an independent element of the kitchen.
