Elizabeth and Patrick are fantastic, there work is fantastic and the results are fantastic. They listened, offered creative solutions, did their homework, acted with complete integrity, and internalized our client profiles and idiosyncrasies as well as someone who is not you can hope to do, Our project was built entirely off the grid and required them to adapt accordingly. We also are not fans of numerous meetings or calls (our schedules don't help) and they adapted beautifully. Everyone who sees the house has loved it as soon as they enter, and the internal flow is so very intelligent--an area where many misfire. We might have pushed for still smaller but we also understand the aesthetic may dictate the scale and it does work beautifully. Highly, highly recommend.

Elizabeth and Patrick earned our complete confidence during the recent renovation of our vacation home. They understood our desire to modernize and enlarge our modest 1950 mid-century modern lake house while staying true to its relaxed nature and authentic charm. D+W are a wonderful team and working with them on our "dream house" was one of the most exciting and fulfilling experiences of my life. They are complete professionals, very detail oriented and on top of all aspects of the project from start to finish. What sets them above others -- and we spent about 6 months interviewing architects before we settled on D+W -- is their creativity and ability to translate our "program" elements into a house more beautiful and suited to our needs than we ever imagined. Their aesthetic sense is impeccable -- especially in their sensitivity to transition spaces, light and volume. We came within our budget but ended up with many elements of higher quality than we expected (e.g., shelving, woodwork). They are wonderful at advising on where costs can be saved without sacrificing quality or functionality. At the same time, they do not allow you to compromise on elements they regard as essential to basic quality (e.g., doors). They also follow all the work closely and do not let the contractor or subs get away with anything less than perfection. (E.g., they insisted some duct work be redone as spec'd in a basement storage room we were leaving unfinished to leave more ceiling room in the event we decided to finish the room.)

I am finishing up a 2 year construction of a new home with the assistance of D+W as architects, project managers and spiritual guides. It has been an extraordinarily positive experience. Elizabeth (Demetriades) and Patrick (Walker) share near perfect skill, imagination, dedication and taste as designer/architects and combine those skills with detailed knowledge of the art and science of construction.

Elizabeth Demetriades and Patrick Walker designed my Painting Studio in Roxbury Conn. in the fall of 2009. They had visited the site following some preliminary conversations on the telephone and upon arriving I had a very good feeling about their level of expertise and their sensitivity to the spatial issues on my hillside property. I liked the way they went about things - they were very good listeners and also quite good at assessing the flow of my property and the relationships between various buildings that dot the site, i.e. : house, guess cottage, free standing barn, in ground pool, etc…… and their considerations about how a New building would interact with those already in place, as well as the awareness of how spaces between all buildings would work with the addition of a new structure. In other words, there was a near musicality to the way they thought, and ultimately the way that they designed the studio. Everything was relational. The results were superb. The final studio design had plenty of natural light, lots of interior free space, and terrific views of my rolling hills and old oak trees. And yet there was enough wall space to allow for paintings to lean and be viewed as one worked on them. In addition the building sits very beautifully on the upper hillside of my property. The rolling hills move right up to the entrance door / sans walkway or stone steps or anything that would break the flow. It almost feels like the structure was dropped into place exactly where it was meant to be. Poetry in Architecture.

D&W were the architects on our house project. Our project was a 1800 sq ft addition as well as extensive renovations to the existing house. The existing kitchen was gutted and redesigned, storage was created throughout the house and the entire multi-level flat roof, which had been the cause of many sleepless nights since we purchased our house 25 yrs ago, was replaced. We interviewed many architectural firms over a two year period. When we met Elizabeth, something clicked. She was enthusiastic about our project and undaunted about our flat roof. She gave us the confidence to proceed with the project. Elizabeth and Patrick were very easy to work with. They understood our fear with undergoing this major project and were reassuring that we would love the final product. They listened to our needs and totally got what we wanted to achieve. It was important to them that my husband and I were both happy. This was not an easy task since my husband and I we not always on the same page. They were very persistent in their designs, and in the end, we got results that satisfied us both. I was very impressed with their design insights. We have lived in this house for 25 years and could not figure how to gain storage. D&W converted a bedroom into a spacious dressing area for my husband and I and relocated the bedroom in an upstairs addition. They designed a mudroom with closets, built-in drawers and a laundry room, which is the envy of all who have seen it. And they did an incredible job making it look like it was part of the original house. D&W over saw the entire project. The weekly site meetings were crucial in putting our minds at ease.. These meetings were involved... not just a quick walk through... most lasted hrs.... and they were always followed by a written report which outlined what was being done, what needed to be done... any problems and suggestions. I can't emphasize how important this was to us. We didn't want any surprises and we wanted it done right. Currently, my husband's family is in the middle of a major construction project and it is turning into a nightmare. There is no communication between the architect, builder and homeowner... no group meetings and too many worries. Another important point i want to make is that D&W were always easy to get in touch with. They always returned phone calls and followed up with e-mails. Even after the construction was completed, if we had questions, wanted opinions... they were available. They also reviewed every contractor's bill that was submitted to us for payment. This was very helpful to us. D&W were on top of things every inch of the way. This project was a huge expense for us..a once in a life time chance to get what we wanted and needed to thoroughly enjoy our house. With D&W, we achieved our goals and will never want for storage again. We felt they had our backs during this whole ordeal and that was comforting during the stress of construction.

This team understands contemporary design and architecture thoroughly with an aesthetic for materials, and style that is impeccable. After one meeting, they had a full understanding of what we wanted in a home. They were able to work around obstacles on the site with creative solutions that made our project more unique and functional than we had imagined. We enjoyed working with them.

I searched for two years to find the perfect site and then interviewed six architects in hopes of finding the perfect one to bring my dream home to fruition. There was an instant affinity towards D+W. They "got it!". I am so happy to have chosen them. D+W were able to understand my desires and needs and yes my dreams. From executing the myriad blueprints of my 7000+ square foot home to dealing with the sometimes arbitrary permit process of a score of village authorities to perfectly fitting with my over the top exacting standards they brought everything together to complete an incredible home. No detail was too small to agonize over and discuss during the multi-year project. They smoothed ruffled feathers of the contractors and subs while keeping an eagle eye on the project. D+W managed to deal with everyone and every issue in a most expert and professional manner. They were the best and will unreservedly recommend them.

Demetriades and Walker helped us with the renovation of an old lake cabin into a modern weekend home. While aesthetics were key to our decision to work together, their ability to make the most efficient use of space and our budget was impressive and appreciated. For example, while we were limited by zoning laws not to increase the footprint of the cabin, D&M helped us expand up instead, fleshing out a real second floor that was not part of the original building. The cabin was small and felt tight—but the new space feels light and airy and connected to the water—a tribute to its great design and respect for the site. I would absolutely look forward to working with them again in the future.

Working with Elizabeth and Patrick was a wonderful experience. They understood what we wanted, were thorough in their research, they gained our full trust and in the end we were delighted with the outcome. If I were to build another house I wouldn't even consider working with anyone else.

Demetriades and Walker have been our architects on the renovation of our 18th Century Barn in Pine Plains New York. We have worked with them for over 20 years. The original work was the creation of an outdoor shower/ secondary deck with multiple planters/ and a hot tub as the focal point for our wedding. Over the past two years they have worked on the creation of a great room inside the barn which involved everything from foundation work, introduction of windows and doors, insulation of all walls and a complex roof preservation with insulation and new beams to provide support. They also dealt with all light fixtures and selection of a wood burning stove. The room is now fantastic, beyond any of our hopes. Besides their skills in design and dealing with complex structural problems, Demetriades and Walker are exceptional people who heard what we wanted and rendered those hopes into a wonderful product.. Above all, they are great people to work with.

Demetriades and Walker designed a house for us. They were wonderful to work with. They have an excellent sense of design and construction, were extremely responsive to client concerns, provided close supervision of the contractor, and have continued to be helpful with post construction issues. After interviewing numerous architecture firms, Demetriades + Walker was the easy and clear choice. D+W designed a new home for us. We were looking to create a bright and open floor plan whose interior had clean yet comfortable lines and whose exterior fit in with the areas other shingle style homes. We wanted something fresh and new, crisp yet warm, relevant now but a house that could also stand the test of time. The finished house more than exceeded our expectations and the process from first design to home completion was thorough, organized and fluid. D+W worked with us through every stage of the design process and helped manage the overall project from designing the house, sending the project out for bids to being the liaison between us and the builders/subcontractors. Their high attention to detail meant that they expected nothing short of the best when it came to the actual construction and finishing of the house. They were able to marry our vision of how we wanted to live and use the house with an aesthetic that was better than we could have ever hoped for. They also have an impeccable way of marrying the inside of a home with the outside creating unreal outdoor living spaces that you never want to leave. They were easy to get along and work with and are truly respected in their field. Should we ever do another project, we would happily hire Demetriades + Walker again. They are truly passionate about what they do and it comes through in their designs and management of projects. They create spaces that are utterly outstanding and unique - there is nothing cookie cutter about this firm.

Elizabeth and Patrick are gifted and committed practitioners who bring their own fine eye and taste to the work, as well as an ability to bring what the clients wants (even when they cannot articulate it) to beautiful life. They are highly professional, reliable and a great joy to work with. Our home was transformed from a okay place to live to a place of great grace and beauty. As an added bonus, they are also lovely people.

Our Project was an 1300-sf commercial addition to a summer camp/conference center 4 season dining room facility. It included open dining space, an additional egress, and an ADA bathroom. The interior blended in perfectly with the existing dining space and added new modern flare with large windows/views. We were able to seal the addition up tight with foam/fiberglass combo insulation and the large windows were triple pain solar heat absorbing windows to help control our winter heating costs. In the summer, very large/simple shades pull down to mitigate heat gain and some of the pains are operable to let out the hot interior air. The space is not air conditioned. They were excellent at reviewing our needs and coming up with an elegant approach to our project. much to our surprise, they even built a physical model. Its hard to say if it was worth the time to do the model, but it likely abated some questioning and delays on the part of our boards and review committees. They were very considerate of our needs and worked fairly with both us and the contractor. We did have some project challenges as the project bids the first time came in way over expected prices. A testament to their character and focus on delivering a successful/quality project, they performed design modifications (structural/location) and helped us rebid the project with successful results. The changes kept with the original design elegance/simplicity and brought the bids down to a very reasonable fee. We had three change orders on our project and they were all opportunity changes to fix moisture issues on the existing unmodified portion of the building. Basically, they did a very good job scoping the project and including all info on their plans and specs. If I had to pick out any low points it would be their construction cost estimating. However, i still give them 5 stars because when things went astray, they fixed it fast and effectively. Their design prices are not rock bottom but they are MORE than fair for their skill, style, and people friendly manner. I would hire them again in a second for another project.
