My client called me in for a "Design Perspective". She hated her floors and wanted my professional opinion. I questioned whether I should be brutally honest, and her response was "absolutely". Then truth be told, "your countertops bother me more than your floors". My client has a stunningly beautiful home and her countertops were not in "the same league". So the project scope expanded from new floors to include countertops, backsplash, plumbing fixtures and hardware. While we were at it, her overly froufrou corbels were updated along with dishwashers that "drove her crazy". Since there was plenty of "demo" in store, she elected to lower her breakfast bar to counter height at the same time to connect her nook more seamlessly with her kitchen. The process: at our first slab warehouse stop, within ten minutes, we uncovered the most beautiful slabs of Taj Mahal ever. No need to keep looking. The slabs had perfect coloration and veining. So different from any other slab of Taj Mahal, it really ought to have its own name. Countertop selection was easy as was the subway and Arabesque backsplash tile. Polished chrome, with its blend of warm and cool tones, was the obvious choice for her plumbing fixture and hardware finish. Finding the right floor tile was what proved to be most challenging, but my client was up to the task. Several weeks of shopping and numerous samples hauled home led us to the perfect limestone. Once her room was complete, better barstools were in order. Hancock and Moore with their huge assortment of leather colors and textures was our clear choice. The Ellie barstools selected embody the perfect blend of form and comfort. Her new limestone flooring extends into her Butler's pantry, pool bath, powder bath and sewing room, so wait, there is still more to do.

The custom inset door cabinetry was stained two different colors for interest and to tie together the various woods in the house. The espresso-colored range surround and hutch cabinetry anchor the room, with the rest of the cabinetry stained in a homey honey color.

This homage to prairie style architecture located at The Rim Golf Club in Payson, Arizona was designed for owner/builder/landscaper Tom Beck. This home appears literally fastened to the site by way of both careful design as well as a lichen-loving organic material palatte. Forged from a weathering steel roof (aka Cor-Ten), hand-formed cedar beams, laser cut steel fasteners, and a rugged stacked stone veneer base, this home is the ideal northern Arizona getaway. Expansive covered terraces offer views of the Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish designed golf course, the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the US, as well as the majestic Mogollon Rim and Stewart Mountains, making this an ideal place to beat the heat of the Valley of the Sun. Fleur de Lys stove backsplash: fleur-de-lis metal tile is Landmark Metalcoat metal tile accents and other stove backsplash material is Botticino Classico limestone.

AL Interiors designed the entire kitchen, from the cabinet design, custom mosaic backsplash, addition of beams and round window, the lighting plan and fixture selection, plumbing fixture selection, and all furniture.

By using contrasting finishes on the built in shelves, the view into the kitchen showcases the Yellow Ware collection of the client while also framing the entrance to the walk in pantry through a french door. The island and the display cabinets are in the same finish with the cherry of the main kitchen accented int eh back of the open shelves and the wood counter tops. This view toward the stainless hood and Wolf range top showcase the contrasting colors and finishes. The lighter distressed and painted island is reminiscent of an antique server. A warming drawer is cleverly concealed behind a matching drawer front. There is seating for 4 around the island with book shelves contained behind closed doors. A custom copper farm sink near the range top allows a view to the mud the front of the house. Since the main sink had to be located on an inside wall, open shelves with vintage french enamelware create an open feeling in lieu of a window. The island is lighted by french inspired black metal pendant lights. The random pattern travertine stone floor hides everything while providing a soft coloring to the room. Peter Rymwid

Cherry kitchen with hammered copper hood and hammered copper sinks. Leathered main countertop with fusion granite island. Copper accent tiles in limestone backsplash. Custom cabinetry and box beams designed and crafted in our own artisanal woodworking shop.

Grouped in one corner of the kitchen are the "tall" cabinetry pieces - the fridge and the pantry. The built-in Sub-Zero fridge was specified to receive panels, which were custom-built by the cabinetry maker. The microwave and warming drawer were also made to look "built-in" through use of trim kits and cabinet frames that fit snugly. Glass display cabinetry with puck lighting graces the top of all the cabinets.

Recalling the Old World flavor of the Italian Countryside, this traditional kitchen features ivory plaster walls and reclaimed wood beams in a rich honey stain. The distressed and glazed finish of the center island coordinates with the walls, while its extra-thick wood top matches the stain of the perimeter cabinets. Topping the perimeter cabinetry is doubly thick quartzite with an ogee edge. The mosaic tile backsplash in shades of ivory, cream, and gold adds just the right amount of shimmer. Hanging above the island are a pair of gold and glass mini chandeliers which pull in the gold of the sconces that flank the limestone hood by Francois & Co. Bronze cabinet hardware adds a bit of jewelry to this hard-working space. A glimpse of beautiful blue linen draperies in the living room can be seen through the doorway.
