The Jack + Mare designed and built this custom kitchen and dining remodel for a family in Portland's Sellwood Westmoreland Neighborhood. The wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed to create an inviting and flowing space with custom details in all directions. The custom maple dining table was locally milled and crafted from a tree that had previously fallen in Portland's Laurelhurst neighborhood; and the built-in L-shaped maple banquette provides unique comfortable seating with drawer storage beneath. The integrated kitchen and dining room has become the social hub of the house – the table can comfortably sit up to 10 people! Being that the kitchen is visible from the dining room, the refrigerator and dishwasher are hidden behind cabinet door fronts that seamlessly tie-in with the surrounding cabinetry creating a warm and inviting space. The end result is a highly functional kitchen for the chef and a comfortable and practical space for family and friends. Details: custom cabinets (designed by The J+M) with shaker door fronts, a baker's pantry, built-in banquette with integrated storage, custom local silver maple table, solid oak flooring to match original 1925 flooring, white ceramic tile backsplash, new lighting plan featuring a Cedar + Moss pendant, all L.E.D. can lights, Carrara marble countertops, new larger windows to bring in more natural light and new trim. The combined kitchen and dining room is 281 Square feet.

Our Snug Kitchens showroom display combines bespoke traditional joinery, seamless modern appliances and a touch of art deco from the fluted glass walk in larder. The 'Studio Green' painted cabinetry creates a bold background that highlights the kitchens brass accents. Including Armac Martin Sparkbrook brass handles and patinated brass Quooker fusion tap. The Neolith Calacatta Luxe worktop uniquely combines deep grey tones, browns and subtle golds on a pure white base. The veneered oak cabinet internals and breakfast bar are stained in a dark wash to compliment the dark green door and drawer fronts. As part of this display we included a double depth walk-in larder, complete with suspended open shelving, u-shaped worktop slab and fluted glass paneling. We hand finished the support rods to patina the brass ensuring they matched the other antique brass accents in the kitchen. The decadent fluted glass panels draw you into the space, obscuring the view into the larder, creating intrigue to see what is hidden behind the door.

Every aspect of this kitchen renovation was thoughtfully considered to create a space for family and friends to enjoy. The renovation included a 4' addition to allow space for an island which the original kitchen did not have. Marvin Ultimate casement windows and fully tiled walls give the room a finished look. Further amenities include 72" Lacanche range and custom hood by Mitchel and Mitchel, polished brass pot filler, two large sinks, and two dishwashers. Fully integrated Appliances by Thermador. Crystal Cabinets provided the beaded inset in a custom white finish. White marble island top and countertops. This is the most elegant and formal kitchen Bradford Design has created to date. Yet only a few steps through a paneled-finished interior refrigerator cabinet one will find a less formal, complimentary second kitchen with features such as “chicken wire” cabinet door fronts on furniture-like cabinetry. The kitchen has a custom Bradford Design range hood, an island designed to look like it is supported by furniture legs, and an especially large and dramatic wall built-in. All of the cabinetry - on each wall in both kitchens - were designed totally symmetrical and without a seam between cabinets on the same plane. Integrating the cabinetry crown molding with the architect’s integrate room crown was another design challenge that defines this room. This high rise, loft style kitchen incorporates modern design elements using stylish materials and hidden appliances. The horizontal, lift up wall cabinets and floating shelves allows sufficient and functional storage in this minimalist design layout. The soft grey color palette in the cabinetry blends in with the industrial elements of the dwelling structure yet allows the purple accent wall and surrounding art to stand out as focal points in this kitchen. One of the most important requests this client had was that the kitchen needed to take advantage of the dramatic skyline views. The appliances needed to be hidden from view as best possible. A soft, neutral color palette so that she could incorporate her favorite colors, purple and black, in accessories and art. Everything needed a place to be stored so there would be no clutter on the countertops. Due to the structural requirements in the building, a large concrete support column was the biggest design challenge. The location of this column made it difficult to ensure that the client had adequate walkway clearance between the living area and kitchen without sacrificing storage. In the original layout, the shape and location of the island and its attachment to the concrete column blocked the fantastic view of the city skyline. In order to improve this walkway clearance, the island was pushed out further into the kitchen so that it became in-line with the column. A shallow depth, tall cabinet then replaced a standard 24” deep cabinet to widen the walk-space. In conjunction with moving the island, the shape of it was altered so that the cook-top could be relocated to allow the client to cook, congregate and take in the fabulous view of the city.
