A neutral colour palette was the main aspect of the brief setting the tone for a sophisticated and elegant home. We chose to go with a white kitchen as it is timeless and classic. This kitchen exudes a sense of elegance, cleanliness, and freshness. This kitchen creates an illusion of space and airiness making it an inviting and uplifting space. Center stage of this kitchen is the benchtop and splash back! But the neutral backdrop of the white kitchen also makes the gold handles and tapware stand out.

After the second fallout of the Delta Variant amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic in mid 2021, our team working from home, and our client in quarantine, SDA Architects conceived Japandi Home. The initial brief for the renovation of this pool house was for its interior to have an "immediate sense of serenity" that roused the feeling of being peaceful. Influenced by loneliness and angst during quarantine, SDA Architects explored themes of escapism and empathy which led to a “Japandi” style concept design – the nexus between “Scandinavian functionality” and “Japanese rustic minimalism” to invoke feelings of “art, nature and simplicity.” This merging of styles forms the perfect amalgamation of both function and form, centred on clean lines, bright spaces and light colours. Grounded by its emotional weight, poetic lyricism, and relaxed atmosphere; Japandi Home aesthetics focus on simplicity, natural elements, and comfort; minimalism that is both aesthetically pleasing yet highly functional. Japandi Home places special emphasis on sustainability through use of raw furnishings and a rejection of the one-time-use culture we have embraced for numerous decades. A plethora of natural materials, muted colours, clean lines and minimal, yet-well-curated furnishings have been employed to showcase beautiful craftsmanship – quality handmade pieces over quantitative throwaway items. A neutral colour palette compliments the soft and hard furnishings within, allowing the timeless pieces to breath and speak for themselves. These calming, tranquil and peaceful colours have been chosen so when accent colours are incorporated, they are done so in a meaningful yet subtle way. Japandi home isn’t sparse – it’s intentional. The integrated storage throughout – from the kitchen, to dining buffet, linen cupboard, window seat, entertainment unit, bed ensemble and walk-in wardrobe are key to reducing clutter and maintaining the zen-like sense of calm created by these clean lines and open spaces. The Scandinavian concept of “hygge” refers to the idea that ones home is your cosy sanctuary. Similarly, this ideology has been fused with the Japanese notion of “wabi-sabi”; the idea that there is beauty in imperfection. Hence, the marriage of these design styles is both founded on minimalism and comfort; easy-going yet sophisticated. Conversely, whilst Japanese styles can be considered “sleek” and Scandinavian, “rustic”, the richness of the Japanese neutral colour palette aids in preventing the stark, crisp palette of Scandinavian styles from feeling cold and clinical. Japandi Home’s introspective essence can ultimately be considered quite timely for the pandemic and was the quintessential lockdown project our team needed.

En esta ocasión tenemos un nuevo proyecto de Cafran Cocinas que esperamos os guste tanto como a nosotros. Se trata de una cocina de concepto abierto que comparte espacio único con el comedor y el salón. Destacamos la impresionante península en Silestone Blanco Zeus que alberga mucho espacio de almacenaje así como una barra con capacidad de hasta cuatro comensales. El mobiliario que se ha seleccionado es el modelo Ak_Project de nuestro fabricante Arrital en el acabado Tecnolux blanco brillo con uñero en el modelo canto "Step". Este modelo además de ser uno de los más competitivos respecto a su calidad/precio, tiene un mantenimiento muy sencillo y proporciona mucha luminosidad a la estancia. Esto junto con la combinación de electrodomésticos de la marca Neff consiguen que la cocina esté espectacularmente equipada y a la vez sea muy práctica. El fregadero de Shock modelo Greenwich N-100 bajo encimera en color negro junto con el grifo de Franke a juego dan un toque muy interesante creando contrastes sobre la encimera.

Our client wanted a kitchen that would effortlessly blend form and function, focusing on maximising space and providing practical storage solutions. They envisioned a space with plenty of drawers and pullouts, ensuring easy accessibility to all their kitchen essentials. Durability and long-lasting wear were paramount; they wanted a kitchen that would stand the test of time. But above all, they desired a sleek and minimalistic design, with all worktop appliances cleverly hidden away to create a clutter-free, easy-to-clean and maintain-friendly environment. Embracing a warm and feminine palette, we chose the Nobilia Sand - Anti-Fingerprint range to set the tone for this elegant kitchen. The soft, neutral shades create a soothing ambience, while the anti-fingerprint technology ensures that the surfaces stay pristine, even with daily use. To add a striking focal point to the kitchen, we incorporated a 20mm Trillium worktop supplied by Dekton. This bold statement piece adds character and offers excellent durability, making it an ideal choice for a kitchen that demands style and functionality. As for the appliances, we carefully selected the best in the market to complement the kitchen's design and meet our client's needs. The Siemens Ovens provide state-of-the-art cooking capabilities, while the Quooker Tap offers instant boiling water for ultimate convenience. The Elica-Nikola Tesla downdraft Hob delivers efficient ventilation and boasts a sleek and seamless appearance, perfectly aligning with the kitchen's handless design. To further enhance the kitchen's functionality, we incorporated some clever features, including sliding doors that lead to a hidden walk-in utility space, ensuring easy access to laundry essentials while keeping them discreetly tucked away. In line with our client's desire for practicality, we added a hidden pullout shelf on the worktop, specially designed to accommodate their heavy Thermomix, making it easily accessible when needed and neatly stowed away when not in use. The island, a central gathering spot, also serves as additional storage space with carefully crafted storage options on the back, making the most of every inch of the kitchen's layout. This kitchen project is a testament to our commitment to making our client's vision a reality. With a focus on space optimisation, practicality, and a feminine touch, this Nobilia kitchen has been transformed into a functional, elegant, and timeless space that our clients will enjoy for many years to come. Classic Palette: Black & White Kitchen Sometimes forgoing colour for a classic palette can really pay off. This lovely family home is taken to the next level of chic with its classic black and white kitchen. Gorgeous classic cabinetry has been selected, with shaker doors and detailed panelling on the island. Being only a small space, the overhead cupboards remain handless to ensure the kitchen does not appear cluttered and the gorgeous Quantum Quartz stone benchtop is repeated on the splashback so as not to distract the eye. Sticking true to the colour palette and classic feel the client selected any chef’s dream oven, a SMEG’s iconic freestanding Victoria Oven. The black Zip Tap gives modern convenience while blending with the aesthetics of the kitchen. We love the slim, black handles by Castella once again ensuring the eye is not distracted. And the beautiful, fluted farmhouse style sink by ABI Interiors is a subtle change of texture and interest while being the pinnacle of a classical kitchen. Being a small kitchen, the client used smart joinery to ensure no space was wasted. With a purpose-built pantry to house drinks station keeps counters clutter free. Drawers with glass fronts are used in the pantry, ensuring items aren’t lost. Hafele LeMans corner unit is used to get into those pesky corners, and two-tier pantry pullouts ensure the smaller spaces are maximized. And Hafele Pull-Out Rubbish Bins means everything has its place. We love the client’s choice of bar stools, gorgeous black velvet with gold tip feet, the only step away from the black and white palette, they are classic and chic. The pendant lights with their handblown glass and metal feature are keeping with the classic styling. All this is taking place upon a lovely canvas of timber look tiles, laid in a classic Chevron pattern that runs the length of the home, giving added visual interest to this gorgeous family home located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
